Marlon Hibbert (@marlonthepannist) is one of the UK’s leading steel pan virtuosos — an artist pushing the instrument beyond expectation while staying deeply connected to its roots.

The steel pan is far more than a musical instrument. Born in 1930s Trinidad, its creation transformed discarded industrial waste into a symbol of resilience, resistance and cultural identity. Developed in response to colonial bans on African drums and later tamboo bamboo, it remains the only new acoustic instrument invented in the 20th century.

That spirit lives in the music.
