Excited to announce the first vinyl reissue from one of the most seminal figures in Puerto Rican “mountain music” aka “música jíbara.” Chuito’s unique vocal stylings, improvisational flair, wit, and humor cemented him in the annals of Puerto Rican music.

On Vol. 4, originally released in 1963, he’s accompanied by Toñito Ferrer y sus Jíbaros Modernos, tackling beloved jíbaro rhythms like aguinaldo and seis, along with some jíbaro takes on the Dominican merengue and Cuban punto.

🌞Ansonia Records proudly presents Cuban singer-songwriter 𝙍𝙞𝙩𝙖 𝘿𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙚. Her debut album ✹𝙍𝙞𝙩𝙪𝙖𝙡✹ (out March 28) — crafted alongside producer Gustavo Guerrero (aka @augusto.bracho) — blends traditional Cuban styles with fresh and contemporary interpretations🌞

Rita uses composition to tell her stories through rhythms and sensations, creating rich, colorful atmospheres. Raised in a musical household, she grew up exploring both Cuban traditions and Mexican genres like son jarocho, shaping her unique sound.

The first single “Zunzun Baba” is a yambú guaguancó. The song serves both as a prayer and an invocation of the wisdom inherent in all of us. “Zunzun” is the Cuban term for the hummingbird, while “Baba” is an African-derived term used to honor wise elders or deities with respect and reverence.

“A little bit of protest, a little bit of Manchester, a little bit of cumbia.”

That’s how @camilolara, also known as @ims_mis, describes his sound, and ‘Ruido Tovar,’ his new project with @meridianbrothers, delivers on all three.

Out now via @ansoniarecords, the album is a homage to tropical futurism, 1970s-1980s Mexican cumbia, and the shared musical histories of Mexico and Colombia.

Mexican Institute of Sound, Lara’s long-running musical outlet, filters cumbia, dub, hip-hop, pirate-radio energy and the chaotic pulse of Mexico City into a propellant, shape-shifting strain of electronic tropical music. Álvarez has built in Meridian Brothers a curiously strong sound, channeling Colombian tropical music through warped psychedelia and tape-hiss surrealism. Which is to say, Alvarez and Lara, longtime friends, were already playing with similar material, just from different points on the spectrum.

Ruido Tovar, their new collaboration coming out May 22 on @ansoniarecords, leans directly into that shared lineage, especially the strange and fertile stretch where Colombian cumbia collided with Mexican pop spectacle. In anticipation of the album’s release, Lara spoke with @liledit about the birth of Ruido Tovar and the strange, elastic history of tropical music flowing between Mexico and Colombia.
