We will be talking about the oddities of Parliament House, and the maniacs and visionaries who dreamed up all the bits of our system that make us unique in all the world, may feature tales of ancient prawn fossils, egg throwing, chicanery, the constitutional significance of dried apricots, the politician who had to quit because of a Paddington Bear doll, the bit of Parliament House that they ran out of money to finish, and the drunken riot that was Australia’s very first election. I will keep it clean for the kids, promise. And will be signing books / doing photos after for as many young nerds as you can gather. Target ages I guess 8 and up but if you have a particularly niche 6yo I WELCOME that, and of course democracy-curious adults welcome too. So many feelings. First - such joy to see a big-bang commercial show that is ALL CHICKS, and what a powerful collection of chicks at that. Steel Magnolias is so sharply written and packed with one liners that any actor not quite up to the mark is extremely obvious. But this cast - wow. Amanda Bishop’s Truvy has exactly the right degree of brains, heart and wiggling butt. McCune’s powers are fully, stunningly on show in the perfectly groomed, stubborn, fear-wracked M’Lynn, Lotte Beckett absolutely cracking as Annelle, the interloper in this parochial little circle. Running outta space here but no weak spots in this cast - they’ve a week left in Sydney then Wollongong Canberra Perth Melbourne - perfect night out with your besties.

A refugee from Iran’s regime, Moz was in offshore detention for a long time and learned to make art with toothbrushes, coffee grounds … he has been hung multiple times in the Archibald, is a decorated film maker and is a relentlessly kind positive person as well as a thoughtful artist - I met him through @addiroad where he regularly visits to help those less fortunate than himself .. pictured with me in reindeer horns haha. Anyway it’s a beautiful gallery and Moz’s work is for sale so head along there - maybe you see something you like and he gets to keep making art … win win. Runs till June 21…
