This year, Addi Road Community Organisation celebrates 50 years of community, activism, creativity and care in the heart of the Inner West.

Since 1976, Addi Road has been more than a place, it has been a movement. A space where people gather, organise, celebrate culture, share food, stand up for justice, and show up for one another.

From grassroots activism to food justice programs, from migrant support to arts and culture, from youth training to community markets, Addi Road has always been powered by people. Volunteers. Staff. Neighbours. Donors. Organisers. Community members.

Through economic downturns, political shifts, and a global pandemic, Addi Road has remained what it has always been: a connector. A safety net. A meeting ground. A place where solidarity is practical and community is action.

Fifty years on, the mission remains the same: fairness, dignity, and opportunity for all.

To everyone who has walked through the gates, packed a hamper, planted a seedling, attended a rally, hosted an event, donated, learned, laughed, or simply found belonging here, this milestone belongs to you.

Here’s to the next 50 years of courage, compassion and community.

The last of the 250 plants donated by @macquariecentre and aided by the plant lovers at @outhouse_design and @alpine_nurseries have found their homes. These beauties have made a big dent in our greening up of the grounds at Addi Road.

Big thanks to a colossal effort by our garden volunteers, the Grasshoppers, who made sure these lovelies survived the summer and found their ways to suitable positions.

Next time you visit, wander around our site and enjoy the new greenery!

Starting big conversations in the classroom 🗣️

Recently our facilitators wrapped up another round of ‘Can We Have A Conversation?’ anti-racism workshops at Marrickville High School, proudly supported by Inner West Council.

This dynamic program engages students in learning about the concepts of race, racism, and anti-racism, offering practical strategies to combat racism, practice anti-racism daily, and critically assess and challenge online misinformation and disinformation.

Grounded in academic research and lived experience, the program encourages students to think critically, have honest conversations, and work together on actionable initiatives that can create positive change in their schools and communities.

Our volunteers receive some well deserved recognition during National Volunteer Week 🏆

Helen Rogers, Mark Campbell, and Heath Clark were recognised at the Inner West Council Amy Large Volunteer Awards on Wednesday night - a well-deserved honour for three exceptional people!

Helen, Mark and Heath each bring a wealth of skills, experience and commitment to Addi Road.

Helen has been a lynchpin across many of our programs, beginning with leading the packing of food boxes during our COVID Emergency Relief Hub. She continues to play a vital role, contributing to our corporate volunteering program, Camperdown Cook Up and Marrickville Food Pantry.

Mark is a highly valued member of the Addi Road kitchen crew, taking on every task with enthusiasm and generosity. He balances his studies while helping prepare meals for the community each week, and his can-do attitude makes a lasting impact.

Heath was recognised on the night for his dedicated volunteer work with Petersham Rugby, but we’re equally grateful for his contribution to Addi Road. Heath leads one of our Marrickville Food Pantry teams with efficiency, care and great humour.

Addi Road could not run without the efforts of all our volunteers, and we’re incredibly thankful for everything they do 🩷🧡💛
