Amy, who is very vocal about the world she lives in, took to pen and guitar, and within 30 minutes, this disparate observation was birthed. There is power in sometimes saying that the truth is you don't know what to say.

“I wrote this song in 30 minutes, quickly after hearing about Renee Goode’s murder in rage, horror, and shock. It came out unfiltered. Stream-of-consciousness. Literal “it’s the 10th of January…” I felt like I was just dictating in my notebook exactly what was going on as it happened. I put my son to bed and grabbed the guitar and found that first chord and just started moving my hands up and down the guitar in patterns - I wasn’t thinking too hard as I wrote, just crying my way through the song, honestly.”

I told him I kind of needed a spiritual advisor and he invited me to coffee. I was dipping my toe back into church, back to this one where Jamey first brought me, where we went for years, where Huck was baptized, and now, single and broken-hearted, I went back to find something I wasn’t finding from 12 Steps or therapy. After telling him my story, I said to Scott, over coffee, “fuck God.” And he smiled kindly and said, “Yes. Fuck God. And that’s when God shows up.”

Saturday morning essentials with 30 minutes to steal while Huck watches Minecrafters on YouTube. CK Williams (read three poems and then breathe). Dani Shapiro "Still Writing". New to me. As good as "Bird by Bird" for encouragement and truth. "Finger Exercises for Poets" by Dorianne Laux for prompts. My notebook. Three pages then just write for a bit. I'll go back to it tonight after Huck's asleep to see if there's anything there to cannibalize. You don't need long stretches of time to write. You sneak it in when you can. Also find your "place."
