#Writer / #Director/ Co-Producer Bridget Frances Harris (@bridgetfrancesharris):
Receiving the NFP grant from Panavision felt kismet for Places of Worship. In our first talks, I knew immediately that Panavision understood the surreal, sensual, and spiritual vision we were going for. Shooting in mostly low-light locations, they presented us with super fast lenses.

Panavision Chicago instilled an enormous amount of confidence in me; I felt like my artistry was treated with respect, and our team was granted such special gifts to achieve this project. While any story should be able to stand on its own, I know that the dreamy atmosphere we captured wouldn’t have been the same without the very specific tools we utilized. Taking the digital edge off created a subtle omnipresence to the film, which contributed to the religious and sexual paranoia I was looking to capture in this young person’s life. I know me and the rest of the holy trinity (David and Katelyn) will forever remember this experience shooting with Panavision.

#DOP David Foy (@_davidfoy):
After much consideration we decided on the Ultra Speeds/Super Speeds for their soft, warm, and nostalgic look. We primarily shot the 40mm and 50mm as they felt right for the intimacy we were after, without feeling overly obtrusive. The 50mm Super Speed T/1 was integral in conveying the inviting aura of a certain Godly figure. Shooting close to, if not wide open, for most of the film produced a beautifully classic image that is rich in texture. Panavision was so generous throughout the process and really brought a level of expertise, as well as a sense of community that is truly one of a kind. They really took care of us.

#Producer Katelyn Henslin (@katelynhenslin):
Most of us went to film school together. We grew up knowing Panavision as the golden standard. Partnering with them elevated the experience for all of us and our movie is better because of it. I am honored Bridget trusted me with her story, and I will always be proud to stand next to David while he works. I’m so grateful to Panavision for believing in us!

Got engaged to my best friend earlier this year, it was a cold Monday in January, a singer performed Labi Siffre’s “Bless the telephone” nearby, Chris captured it on film, some of our friends were there to cheer us on, Mollie climbed into the fountain (to get the shot of course), they told me we got an unexpected applause from everyone near us that day…it was perfect.

It’s rare to have a collaborator that just gets you, like really really gets you…like to the point where you finish each other’s sentences. It’s even less common when that collaborator is one of your best friends. It makes it much easier to buy in and throw your whole soul into something.

Many memories were made on this project, but I will never forget the day Emma and I sat in my car outside of her apartment and went back and forth and back and forth until we finally talked ourselves into shooting 16. Logistically it made no sense at all, but we knew in our hearts it was right, and so we pooled all of our resources together and just barely scraped by to make it happen. The result is better than I could’ve ever imagined. This is the first film I’ve ever shot on film and it will always be a special one for me. Our beautiful cast, and beast of a crew are what made this dream even remotely attainable. This is all of ours. A truly special moment in time.

We wrapped on my 2nd feature film ‘Behind The Eight-Ball’ a couple days ago. As I sit here in my friends apartment, which I’ve been staying in the last 2 months I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude towards all of the people that championed this project forward.

There’s so much bullshit you have to go through to get a film off the ground, let alone into production, then in front of people. It’s easy to feel like all the forces that be are against you. It’s hard to put into words whatfilm and filmmaking, but specifically indie filmmaking means to me. It’s truly a gift and a privilege to be a part of.

@grantrosenmeyer thank you for thinking of me, I quite literally would not be here without you. Thank you for the trust man.

@artisanalinterrobang thank you for trusting me with your story and providing the freedom to explore this world with you. Love ya bud.

@katelynhenslin there are WAY to many things to list out here, but know that I love ya and you were the backbone of this entire thing.

@stillhere.media and @brandonbunr you are my two best friends in the world. You both mean more to me than I can really quantify. Thank you for dealing with me and my bullshit on and off set.

@miles.andersen and @kyliereneeclark thank you for rocking with me and keeping the vibe and the energy positive always. And…letting me rip around with the camera and put it down in places I probably shouldn’t have lol.

@gerritfahr and @hatlebergfilm thank you for keeping me honest and busting your asses day in and day out. The images and experiences would not be what they are without you two.

@crisgarcia__13 you and your small but mighty art team absolutely killed it. It was a pleasure to light and shoot your sets. Thank you for the collaboration.

@daufcam @atlaslightingchicago @abelcine this film would not have happened without your graciousness and willingness to support the indie film community in Chicago. You helped make dreams come true.

There are so many people not mentioned here who have my utmost gratitude and respect. You know who you are🫶.

I’ll see you all on the next one…

4 countries (not including layovers), a stupid amount of planes, 2 short films, just shy of 30 rolls of 16mm, 3 labs, 5 different cameras…and 1 broken one, a ton of beautiful moments, a ton of challenging moments, some downright impossible moments, and a bunch of learning experiences…maybe 3 of the more stressful months of my life, but perhaps 3 of the best and most fun as well.

@pillsemm and @b.barantschik, I am eternally grateful for your friendship, collaboration, and trust in bringing your visions to life for my first outings on film. To the casts and crews that made these films possible with their resilience and perseverance, you have my heart, my gratitude, and my utmost respect. Lots to come, and to many more!
