After another magical Dior show for the cruise collection last night at LACMA - Betsy Gaghan / Chapter two

“This début stamped the inevitable - that Anderson has ambition – all of which is healthy and thrilling. Like Christian Dior himself, he wants to make the world look new, not just through the optics of Dior. “It’s fashion. And it is a couture house, and therefore fashion has to challenge,” he said. Anderson certainly challenged any pre-conceived perceptions of Dior and his own design capabilities. He – modestly – referred to the show as “an opening chapter,” but his vision for Dior already seems consolidated, which was exceptional as it was multifaceted and many-layered. “A woman can be vulnerable, and she can be strong. And she can embrace drama,” he said. So, it seems, can Anderson. This was an act of bravado, a sensational fashion show for any house. But for the house of Dior, it felt revolutionary.
