“Fathoming deep time is arguably geology’s single greatest contribution to humanity. Just as the microscope and telescope extended our vision into spatial realms once too minuscule or too immense for us to see, geology provides a lens through which we can witness time in a way that transcends the limits of our human experiences.”
– Marcia Bjornerud
“Annals of the Former World” brings together photographs, collages and writings on Deep Time, the Anthropocene, our civilisation’s distorted sense of speed and denial of slowness.
Excerpts from Marcia Bjornerud, Peter Brannen, Nicola Davison, Richard Fortey, Thomas Halliday, Elizabeth Kolbert, Robert Macfarlane, John McPhee, Vandana Shiva, Roberto Trotta, Scott Wing, and Jan Zalasiewicz.

Hyperventilating on top of some medieval Corsican fortress, late October 2025

Last year I met this rising virtuoso @belugaryba
Jedrzej Dudek is a Polish musician, producer, vocalist, and songwriter who co-creates the bands P. Unity, Beluga Stone, and Grupa Torpedo. Under the pseudonym beluga ryba, he released his solo project “DZIADZIA”, a multi-genre album that at times evokes the American West, at others the Far East, all fused with rap psychedelia.
His music sits at the crossroads of contemporary spirituality and the search for meaning in late-stage capitalism. He blends the banality of everyday life, street language, irony, and self-deprecating vulgarity with Eastern philosophy — impermanence, the illusion of ego, and the attempt to accept whatever arises. The record moves between practices of self-inquiry and the helplessness that comes in the face of chaos and destruction. He tells grotesque stories about beachgoers, drunken bar conversations, club afterparties, littering, occupying a toilet, or people judging and classifying one another — only to gradually dissolve them into a sense of mystical unity.
Give this dude a listen
