Christopher Walken has spent more than sixty years working in what he calls “the country of show business.”
Raised in Astoria by immigrant parents, Walken began performing as a child, traveling alone into Manhattan for dance lessons and television appearances. Those early trips—from his father’s bakery in Queens to studios in Rockefeller Center—were simply part of the routine.
Now 82, Walken speaks with ICON about growing up in New York, the cadence of speech that became his signature, and a career that has unfolded with remarkable consistency. The aim, he says, has always been basic: a good day’s work.

Damson Idris (@damsonidris) has built a career on selectivity. Since his breakout role as Franklin Saint on “Snowfall,” the London-born actor has largely sidestepped the industry’s appetite for overexposure, favoring projects and public moments that feel deliberate. Next, he’ll portray Miles Davis in the forthcoming film “Miles & Juliette.”
