[SAT.5/2] @BoomboxLA welcomes the long-awaited return of certified west coast icon/pioneer @DJBATTLECAT + Los Angeles hip hop queen @MONALISA7872!!

Simply put, South Central LA's own BATTLECAT is one of the most important producer/DJs to ever come out of Los Angeles! From his start as one of the original 1580AM KDAY Mixmasters in the late 80s to his iconic production discography featuring the likes of Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Kurupt, Ice Cube, The Eastsidaz, Nate Dogg, Nipsey Hussle, The Game, Domino, King Tee, Lucy Pearl, E-40, Xzibit, Faith Evans, & countless others...his name is synonymous with the sound of Los Angeles known as G-Funk! Most recently he's toured the world with Kamasi Washington and served as Program Director for Dr. Dre's "The Pharmacy" show on Apple Music. We could not be more hyped to welcome one of our most iconic OGs back to our stage for a special performance!

If that wasn't enough, we're incredibly excited to welcome back the queen of Los Angeles, the legend MONALISA! Born and raised in East Los Angeles, Mona got her start in the music industry as a street/radio promoter in the early 90s where she helped launch the careers of legends like the Wu-Tang Clan, Tha Alkaholiks, Slum Village, OC, & more at iconic labels like Loud, Wild Pitch, Delicious Vinyl, Immortal, & Good Vibe. She then pivoted utilizing her extensive music knowledge to become one of the most sought-after DJs in the city. She joined the legendary Umoja Hi-Fi crew in 2009, has been a resident at the iconic Motown On Mondays since 2012, and has held down her radio show on Dublab since 2016. Needless to say, she is a Los Angeles icon and we couldn't be more hyped to have her back on our turntables!

[SAT.4/4] @BoomboxLA is back celebrating #404DAY with VOL.28 of our PRODUCER SHOWCASE series featuring beat icons @DAREALDIBIASE + @AFTA1 + the Boombox debuts of @MARQUESMURREY + @BRAVODOMO all rocking SP-404 sets!

One of the most important names to come out of the influential early 2000s Los Angeles beat scene, the legend DIBIA$E has been snapping necks for well over 2 decades. Coming up through the ranks of local beat battles, his 2007 “Up The Joystick” EP created its own subgenre with its combination savage drums, wonky swing, and innovative flips of classic 8-bit video games. In 2007 he also rocked his first official beat set...at our 1-Year Anniversary! He’s since released countless albums and become one of the faces of hip hop/lofi production. We couldn’t be more hyped to have one of our OGs back on the set for another full-circle moment on his trusty 404!

Another don of the early 2000s beat scene, AFTA-1’s ethereal productions and reclusive nature have pushed him to mythical status among beat fans. His 2008 “Aftathoughts Vol. 1” LP is an opus of mystical soundscapes over serious slaps, the likes of which the world had not yet heard. It spawned entire movements as Joe Kay once told us that Afta-1 is one of the reasons he founded Soulection. We were also honored to book Afta for his first ever live set at our 5th official Producer Showcase in 2009. Don’t miss this incredibly rare appearance from one of our favorite beat gurus!

We’re also honored to be hosting first-time callers MARQUES MURREY and BRAVODOMO! Marques got his start in church playing keys before pivoting to production where his soulful flips earned him an invite to Jazzy Jeff’s infamous Playlist Retreat. Portland born/Sacramento based BravoDomo’s made a name for himself in the krump scene producing high-energy beats and remixes across multiple genres. We can’t wait to hear what these 2 are gonna drop on us for 404 Day!

Certified legend HOUSE SHOES is one of the rare breed of OGs that legitimately ages like a fine wine. He made his name in his native Detroit as one of their most celebrated DJs in the 90s breaking records from the likes of Slum Village and Phat Kat while putting out Jay Dee’s first batch of remixes on vinyl. After moving to Los Angeles in 2006, he founded his profoundly influential Street Corner Music label in 2013 as a haven for instrumental hip hop producers. He continues to rock crowds across the globe via his memorable live sets and bi-weekly “Magic” twitch stream. Every time Uncle Shoes pays us a visit, it’s always a treat for our eardrums. Miss this one at your own peril, fam!

Very few local working DJs have the pedigree of Long Beach legend STEVE DUB! A 25+ year veteran in the game, he got his start in ‘99 influenced by OG DJ Rectangle mixtapes and omnipresent SoCal legends, The Beat Junkies. In 2014 he officially made his mark as an on-air mixer on the legendary KDAY for over 6 years! His most recent endeavor is the red hot “Golden Hour LBC”, a Sunday day party focused on r&b, hip hop, funk, soul, & reggae, that’s been sold out every week since they started in November! In the past 3 months alone they’ve hosted heavy-hitters like Skratch Bastid, DJ Ease, DJ Pump, Trayze, Excel, & more! We couldn’t be more hyped to welcome a long overdue debut from one of our favorite Southern California legends!

A hip hop mainstay for damn near 30 years, multi-platinum Grammy award winner NOTTZ’s unique blend of gritty drums, innovative chops, and crushing basslines have provided sonic backdrops for artists like Busta Rhymes, The Notorious B.I.G., Snoop Dogg, Pusha T, Rakim, 50 Cent, De La Soul, The Game, Little Brother, Xzibit, Sean Price, Diamond D, Ras Kass, Rapsody, Blu, and of course, the late, great J DILLA! [SAT.1/3] @BoomboxLA returns to kick off the new year with our 13th Annual Native Tongues Appreciation Night!! We’ve found that there’s no better way to start the year than a night chock-full of classics, rarities, remixes, samples, & more from A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Jungle Brothers, Black Sheep, and the rest of the Native Tongues crew!

Joining us this year is none other than certified mixtape legend @JPERIODBK! Originally from Los Angeles, he moved to Brooklyn in 1999 and quickly made a name for himself on the iconic New York mixtape circuit. His unique “audio-biography” approach to his “Best of” mixtapes blends both interviews and music to create a signature sound that bridges the gap between storytelling and DJing. He’s officially collaborated with a laundry list of music luminaries including Q-Tip, Nas, The Roots, Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, Common, Lauryn Hill, Mary J. Blige, & more! These historic collabs not only secured him the gig of Black Thought’s official tour DJ, they also catapulted him on to stages like The Roots Picnic and The Kennedy Center where he brought his aptly-titled stage show, “The Live Mixtape” to life...bringing out legendary artists to perform individual songs while mixing the entire show live! With his knack for storytelling, arsenal of exclusives, and diehard love for the Native Tongues, we couldn’t be more hyped to welcome J for an exclusive Natives set and rare Los Angeles homecoming!

Back like he never left, you know we couldn’t throw a Native Tongues night without our brother @PLATURN! The Bay Area legend and Native Tongues historian brought the idea to us in 2013 as a release party for his “So This Is De La Heaven Part 2” mixtape. A mixtape that Maseo from De La Soul himself described as, “Out of all the De La mixes I’ve heard this is the most creative one!” We’re always honored to welcome the funky viking back on our turntables for another Natives journey!
