A year ago, we stepped into the raw, historic Wilhelmine theatre. From the moment we saw it, there was no way back. This was a venue left untouched for nearly half a century, frozen in time. We saw what it was but also what it could become: a breathing, evolving cultural organism. And we made it happen.

With the pioneering partnership of @trockland , and the power of our understanding of artistic transformation, we redefined what is possible within historical walls. 1—06 is never meant to be just a gallery—it is a cultural laboratory, a place where art is not merely displayed but plays an active role in shaping the space it fills and the community who engage with it.

We were running against time, government consent and of course the financial resources required for such a project.

But this is how culture is made. Not by waiting. Not by seeking validation. But by doing. By taking risks. By stepping forward even when the ground is uncertain.

The vision of 1-06 was built with many hands, many minds, and many hearts. And that’s what it’s all about.

GIVE, GIVE, GIVE.
This space was always meant to be temporary. That is its magic. It was never meant to be controlled, or limited. It existed for a moment, a catalyst, an ignition. Free from judgment, only expansion. 1-06 is a platform for creative forces to collide and elevate each other—in honour of the building, in honour of art, in honour of the people who dared to show up.

An intimate concept we created together with @magnificent.matter , that celebrates the beauty of genuine human connection—those rare, transformative moments where ideas flow and bonds are formed. It’s about rediscovering what it means to connect at eye level, fostering interactions that plant the seeds of collaboration and community.  For us it was one of the most special formats so far, because everyone being part gave so much into it. 

Together, with the @monopolberlin community, we’ve turned Wilhelmine into a vibrant space for these encounters—a place where the past, present, and future converge, and creativity thrives. It was a live experience that transformed our Theater into a nest of inspiration, collaboration, and unity.

Wilhelmine is a space of many lives and many stories, and right now, it’s the beloved playground and cultural lab of our 1——06.

In its raw, unfinished state, Wilhelmine inspires us daily, setting the stage for unforgettable moments and offering a true home to artists and our extended community. For making this possible, we’re deeply grateful to our friends at @trockland , whose partnership has been essential in bringing this vision to life.

But what awaits Wilhelmine in the future? Imagine as you approach the building: a colonnade opens up the entrance and provides a protected space for future happenings and encounters. In addition, large, historic windows of the Kulturhaus will be reopened, filling the interior with natural light and fostering connections among all who enter.

The heart of Wilhelmine, the 500 m² hall, is being reimagined as a lively venue for performances, exhibitions, and gatherings—a place where art, energy, and ideas come together in an unforgettable way. It will be a space for everyone in the community, where every encounter, whether between people, spaces, or ideas, enriches our shared experience.

Wilhelmine is a space of many lives and many stories, and right now, it’s the beloved playground and cultural lab of our 1——06.

In its raw, unfinished state, Wilhelmine inspires us daily, setting the stage for unforgettable moments and offering a true home to artists and our extended community. For making this possible, we’re deeply grateful to our friends at @trockland , whose partnership has been essential in bringing this vision to life.

But what awaits Wilhelmine in the future? Imagine as you approach the building: a colonnade opens up the entrance and provides a protected space for future happenings and encounters. In addition, large, historic windows of the Kulturhaus will be reopened, filling the interior with natural light and fostering connections among all who enter.

The heart of Wilhelmine, the 500 m² hall, is being reimagined as a lively venue for performances, exhibitions, and gatherings—a place where art, energy, and ideas come together in an unforgettable way. It will be a space for everyone in the community, where every encounter, whether between people, spaces, or ideas, enriches our shared experience.

Wilhelmine’s transformation is more than a renovation; it’s a journey. As we honor its rich past, we’re also looking forward to the phases ahead, feeling lucky to contribute to its story—past, present, and future.

When @Trockland offered us this “blank canvas” at the end of 2023, we knew it was the perfect space to construct in order to deconstruct.

Last week’s Berlin Art Week allowed us to celebrate it all - the past and present of Berlin, as well as the contributors and our community at 1-06. Through our laboratory and 1-06 gallery, under(de)construction, we created something unforgettable. Our exhibition, (in)between spaces, reflects the tension between past and present, structure and creativity.
