The Queen Adelaide is a 19th century boozer for 21st Century queers. Late licensed and kick-ass camp with weekend discos in the basement bar.
The pub was built around 1830 and named for William IV’s dowager Queen who bequeathed money to fight a cholera epidemic sweeping the East End. Cholera be gone!
Its story began at the other end of the street at the turn of the millennium, breathing fire into The George & Dragon, a long closed watering hole of a similar vintage. High energy and warm hearts, electro clash and 80s pop rang out above and below the bells of Shoreditch.
In 2015 it transitioned to become The Queen Adelaide you see today. More floors, later doors, more rooms to manoeuvre, more corners for kissing .
Era defining.
Boundary Breaking.
Expertly Soundtracked
& Fairy lit.
Proud purveyors of pints, pop and magical fragments of the E2 stratosphere for a quarter of a century.
The QA will host the Hackney Art Week official after party 10pm-3am on Friday 5 June
6-7 June will feature work by Taylor Silk, whose gloriously camp, queer and defiantly handmade practice celebrates fetish culture, humour and “bad taste” through drawing, collage and subcultural references.
On 9 and 10 JuneAnka Dabrowka and Stav Bee present a neon-lit takeover from 5pm exploring dyke identity, trans rights and queer visibility. Featuring art, DJ sets, tattoos, tarot and exclusive merch, the pop-up brings together nightlife, activism and queer community in celebration of Pride Month.
Curated by Ryan Coleman Connolly for Hackney Art Week.
The QA
483 Hackney Road E2
Bethnal Green Tube. Cambridge Heath or Hoxton Overground.
Open daily from 5pm

Hackney Arts WeekASSEMBLY
An exhibition: Collaging found, discarded or collected objects.
ASSEMBLY brings together three artists who explore the art of assemblage, collaging new forms from everyday, found, discarded, or collected materials. Each artist creates works where these elements are reconfigured, forming new material conversations and meanings through their juxtaposition.
Emily Tracy layers found images and objects to trace fragile ecologies shaped by human presence. Sophie Turner activates garments and artifacts as living carriers of narrative, inviting reinterpretation through time and touch. Amanda Benson’s sculptures emphasize process and construction, revealing how materials meet, balance, and transform through her hand.
At the heart of ASSEMBLY is an open invitation to create. Visitors are encouraged to make their own assemblages from a pile of discarded objects at the exhibition.

Chats Palace — a much-loved Hackney community arts venue with a long history of grassroots culture, music and performance — hosts Future Primitive by Chris Bianchi as part of Hackney Art Week.
A Maltese-born artist, illustrator and co-founder of cult publication LE GUN, Bianchi’s work moves between drawing, installation and immersive environments, blending raw mythology, underground culture and East London dreamscapes. His work has been exhibited internationally, from Paris to Tokyo, alongside commissions for brands including Paul Smith, Channel 4 and Levi’s.
Join us for the opening night on 10 June, 7–11pm, with a live set from Pat Dam Smyth at 10pm. The Irish-Greek artist, producer and composer creates cinematic, emotionally charged soundscapes blending alternative, ambient and experimental influences into immersive sonic worlds.

At Malavenda Café — a Hackney café and creative space known for hosting art, food and community events — artist Gianluca Bonomo presents The Identical Difference, an immersive exhibition for Hackney Art Week.
Featuring Triptych — a looping 6-minute video work created with Irene Cioni — alongside large-scale photographs from Ubi Corpus and Under, the exhibition explores transformation, duality and the body as a site of spiritual and emotional tension. Recurring motifs of rupture and return run throughout the work, where video, photography and installation blur the boundaries between self and other.
Also showing: Nikki Edwards, whose expressive mosaic works turn glass and porcelain into bold, graphic compositions.

Join us for the opening night of Lucie Jelfs’ works at Findlay Property, Broadway Market.
Tuesday 9 June, 7–9pm ✨
After graduating with a degree in fashion, Lucie Jelfs spent several years working as a model in London, collaborating with photographers, directors and stylists including Wolfgang Tillmans. These experiences continue to shape her visual language and artistic perspective today.
Founded in 2001, Findlay Property grew by identifying high-potential central London rentals before establishing its Broadway Market office in 2005. A resilient and forward-thinking approach carried the business through both the 2008 financial crisis and the 2020 pandemic, supported by early adoption of cloud technology. In 2023, the office was fully refurbished to create an inspiring hub centred on employee wellbeing and professional growth.
We look forward to welcoming you ✨
