回 𝑬𝒙𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑰𝑰 by Sai @sai_studios

An interactive sound experiment shaped by the Chinese pictogram 回 — a gesture of returning. The work opens a space for quiet introspection, unfolding as the artist listens to the echoes of his own mind.

Here, sound becomes both visible and tangible, a vibration that can be felt as much as heard. Through this simple act of listening, Sai slows the passage of time, inviting mindfulness to settle in. The reverberations extend beyond the self, prompting us to attune to our inner voices, our surroundings, and the subtle pulse of the world we collectively inhabit.

回 𝑬𝒙𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑰: 𝑺𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒅 𝑪𝒉𝒆𝒄𝒌

We had a wonderful experimental Sound Check with the local choir Equaver, led by pianist and vocalist Fran Ho @franhomusic, part of Sai’s 回 𝑬𝒙𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑰 (Circular Reverberance) at @artoutreachsingapore last November.

回 𝑬𝒙𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑰 magically carried their voices, letting sound flow in luminous waves that filled our hearts with resonance.

🎶 Up next:

回 𝑬𝒙𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑰𝑰
Building on this rich sonic exploration, Sai will present 回 𝑬𝒙𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑰𝑰 during @sgartweek!

[ hearth ] Sometimes the echoed response holds more insight than the voice that began it.

In this reel, artist Sai offers a glimpse into his intuitive, non-linear way of creating. From ideas that surface suddenly in the middle of the night to research that unfolds over years and decades, his practice is shaped by a deep dialogue with the materials he encounters, moving fluidly between drawing, sound, and sculpture.

Showing at Art Outreach from 22 – 30 November 2025, “Circular Reverberance” transforms sound into a space for listening and reflection. Visitors are invited to speak or sing into an installation where sound travels, bounces, and returns in a circular path, creating a living echo that invites mindfulness and introspection.

Step into the space, and discover what your own voice reveals.

Huge shout out to @sgbeachwarriors for all the care, energy, and hard work that goes into keeping our beaches clean and alive 💙 🌊☀️

This morning, we managed to save and collect some of the debris for our artwork from their cleaning.

A big thanks to @samshuqin for leading us to SG Beach Warriors, and @lonew0lf and @_zhenghaoo for sweating it out under the blazing sun and hauling the salty, smelly debris back to the studio 🫶✨

✨ Sound Check ✨
Live performance with Equaver & Friends

🗓 1 February (Sun)
🕟 4:30–5:30pm
📍 Comma Space
🎟 Limited capacity — please register via the link in our bio

What happens when an experiment is truly listened to — tuned through breath, voice, and vibration?

During the first sound check of Sai’s Experiment I at @artoutreachsingapore, led by @franhomusic, the singers’ voices uncovered something unexpected: an enveloping vibration that gently held the experience, space and mind together. That moment sparked a new exploration, now reimagined within a different spatial arrangement at @commaartspace.

This is not a technical sound check, but a vocal activation — a way of sensing, attuning, and awakening the experiment through listening to yourself.

Come and let the voices move through you!

Singapore 239694

1-2. ADAPT ADAPT ADAPT ADAPT ADAPT ADAPT…… (III)

Year: 2025
Medium: Adapters and light bulb
Dimensions: 4120 × 12 × 12 cm

This site-responsive installation reflects on adaptation as a continuous process shaped by life, work, and relationships. Using pin and screw adapters as literal tools of connection, the work symbolises how systems and individuals must realign in order to function. The illuminated light bulb suggests clarity and possibility emerging through adjustment, highlighting the human capacity to adapt to changing environments.

3. GOING SOMEWHERE 01

Year: 2012
Medium: Mixed media
Dimensions: 104 × 270 × 270 cm

Eight bicycles form a continuous circular loop, evoking perpetual motion without forward progress. The work reflects on collective movement, interdependence, and the paradox of shared direction—questioning whether we are advancing or endlessly cycling together within social structures.

📍 Venue
82 Tiong Poh Rd, #01-07
Singapore 160082

4-5.当我们同在一起 (Together) No. 15

Year: 2025
Medium: Brass
Dimensions: 200 × 10 × 4 cm

Part of the Together series, this work transforms everyday materials through playful reassembly. Inspired by childhood songs and acts of play, it reflects on togetherness, cooperation, and the quiet humour that emerges when ordinary objects are joined to create new meanings.

[ hearth] As we close “Circular Reverberance”, the gentle echoes of the installation stay with us.

Meticulously built from hand-cut and hand-sanded wooden reflectors that allowed every breath, hum, and whisper to travel with a new kind of intimacy, Sai’s installation has invited visitors into a space of quiet attention over the past two weekends. What appeared simple on the surface revealed layers of care, precision, and sensitivity to sound and material, which are all hallmarks of Sai’s practice.

Known for creating works that heighten an awareness of the everyday, Sai works with sound in ways that gently shift how we experience space. With clarity and warmth, “Circular Reverberance” serves as a continuation of the artist’s sustained exploration and offers a rare opportunity to slow down and listen closely, both outwardly and inwardly.

Thank you to everyone who visited and spent time with the work and to Sai for bringing such presence, curiosity, and thoughtfulness into the Art Outreach space.

Follow @sai_studios to keep up with his practice!

[ hearth ] “Circular Reverberance” has quietly taken over our gallery, and it is an experience you can quite literally feel.

Each one individually cut and sanded, the artist Sai works with sound and the hand-crafted form to assemble a constellation of wooden reflectors. For this installation, a circular pathway that catches your voice and sends it travelling through space before returning to you is formed.

The result is a work that is as physical as it is meditative. Every surface carries the touch of the hand, and every echo reveals something slightly different, a reminder that listening can be both an external act and an inward one.

Showing now till 30 Nov, “Circular Reverberance” is best experienced in person. Step into the space, speak into the work, and listen as your own voice traces its way back to you. Come spend a quiet moment with this thoughtful and resonant experiment.
