At Foxy’s Table, we sit down over food, sharing time and stories with DJs and community, so you can get to know them a little better.

For the final interview of this series before the Cumbión, I sat down with Guagua @fernandobenavides , the mind behind @beatkitchenrecords , a project that goes far beyond being just a record label. We spoke about how Beat Kitchen Records has grown into a real community through music, events, clothing, and supporting artists and releases with a strong sense of identity and connection.

We also talked about his upcoming mixtape under his artist project Guagua, and his new radio platform CPR@centrepointradiowhich is currently in the works. It was a very honest conversation about building platforms, creating community, and staying connected to culture through music.

from a friend with such a good eye for records @dirty_salsa

this sound just feels really good
the mix of jazz, cumbia and afro-colombian rhythms blends so naturally together

Created by Francisco Zumaqué, one of the musicians experimenting with cumbia, jazz and afro-colombian sounds in Colombia during the 70s

Almost 50 years later, Macumbia still sounds rooted and raw, with that experimental touch that makes it feel muy especial.

At Foxy’s Table, we sit down over food, sharing time and stories with DJs and community, so you can get to know them a little better.

This time, I sat down with @red_head_that_loves_records to talk about her journey collecting records and the love she has for record covers, artwork and the stories behind them.

We also spoke about how we first met through Discoteca Tropical, and how seeing her growing record collection eventually led me to encourage her to start playing out. Through communities like @herspinonthings , Vivi shared how she found support, confidence and a space to give it a go behind the decks.

Hearing cumbia, currulao, bambuco and afro-colombian sounds being taken into dub territories feels both familiar and completely new at the same time

A project by @cerrero_ , founder of @lloronarecords and @discospacifico , reworking folkloric sounds through dub, echo, and experimentation. I also had the pleasure of meeting cerrero while I was in colombia; it was inspiring to hear about his work with communities and local heritage.
