Banister Knob.
Made from a section of discarded banister originally used to aid in the ascent/descent of a domestic staircase. The shape of the banister has been designed to fit in the palm of a hand making it perfect for holding when opening/closing a door. The 30-degree cuts at either end show a cross section of the banister which alludes to the materials original function. The channel originally created to house balusters holds an aluminium plate which allows the knob to be attached to a door in either a vertical or horizontal orientation.
Unfortunately, this knob got lost in the post when travelling down to London so won’t be on show in Milan. Luckily there are a bunch of other knobs to check out.

Sourced from an auction in Byker, an assortment of vintage matchbooks provided an archive of visual references, reinterpreted here through a series of new designs.
With Job Lot, we comment on discarded ephemera and its use beyond an intended life cycle, highlighting the potential value of unwanted objects as a means of research within a design practice.
