We’re excited about this show for so many reasons. It’s our first design festival, which feels like a big milestone in itself. Looking back to the start of last year, we were putting on our very first show, completely unorganised, not really knowing what we were doing, just winging it. A year and a bit later, we’re on our fifth show, a little more organised, still winging it, but now working with over 40 incredible independent designers and makers from across the UK, showing an incredible range of furniture, homeware and sculpture. Our aim has always been to create a platform for emerging designers to present work in fresh and interesting ways and that’s what we wanted to embody with this exhibition.

The concept of The Car Boot Sale came from our love of hunting through these treasure troves for hidden gems. There’s a unique energy at a car boot, an electric mix of furniture, objects, art and people, and we wanted to capture that. The show brings together different styles, techniques, colours and textures into a kind of organised chaos.

We’re also thrilled to be partnering with Formd, who are helping bring the exhibition to life with their fabrication wizardry.

The exhibition features 17 fantastically unique makers from around the UK, each with their own take on what a car boot sale means to them. The mix of work is electric and bold, and we can’t wait to share it with you.

We’ll be open from the 16th - 21st of September at 228 Brick Lane. Come by, say hello, and bring your friends and family along. We promise you won’t leave with a broken toaster.

We kicked off the year at the local pub, sipping Guinness and munching on scampi fries, bouncing ideas back and forth about how to showcase the incredible craftsmanship being created in Scotland. Surrounded by great food and drink, the concept for an intimate dining experience where people could engage with the work was born. A few months later, we pitched the idea to Soho House — and, as they say, the rest is history.

From the initial sketches, CAD designs and layouts, to site visits and tablecloths and colour palettes. Every tiny detail was put into this project and it really was incredible to see it come to life.

Huge thanks to Holly and Poppy, whose belief in our vision turned ideas into reality. You’ve not only supported us—you’ve become lifelong friends. We’re beyond grateful.

We’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our dear friend Neal for crafting the table that will go down in history. Your outstanding fabrication skills transformed this dining experience into something truly unforgettable.

And to all the designers featured at our Design Guild Dinner, thank you for trusting us to showcase your work in new and unique ways. We’re continually inspired by your creations and truly feel honoured to display them.

Never in a million years did we imagine we’d be able to pull off something of this scale so early in slancha’s journey. It’s been an incredible way to wrap up the year and undoubtedly the biggest highlight so far.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us this year.

We’re taking some time over the Christmas period to plan for what’s next for slancha and we’re excited to see what 2025 brings.
