It is my pleasure to host visiting artist Mayu Ueda @mayu.ueda4 at @untcvad @untceramics for the next few weeks! She will be giving a series of lectures open to the public, including an artist lecture in ART 223 on Mar 20th, at 11 am @untcvad

Many thanks to all those who supported this event, including the Onstead Institute, Charn Grant, Studio Art Department, UNT Libraries, and the Language Department at @untcvad @unt and the @internationalacademyofceramics

Mayu Ueda is a ceramic artist based in Japan. Born in Kobe, she received her BFA and MFA in Ceramicsfrom Osaka University of Arts.

Her current work explores emotional and tactile landscapes through clay and stone, often combining thesematerials in a single firing to produce cracks and gaps that serve as metaphors for memory and healing. Her series, including A Lump of Feelings and A Garden of Feelings, explores how internal sensations andmemories can be translated into sculptural form. Ueda’s work has been widely exhibited both in Japanand internationally, including major exhibitions such as the Kikuchi Biennale (Tokyo), Relación Cerámica (Spain), and the Taoxichuan Art Museum (China).

She has participated in residencies at Guldagergaard (Denmark), the Archie Bray Foundation (USA), andthe Shangyu Celadon Center (China), among others. Her works are included in public collections such asthe John Michael Kohler Arts Center, Indiana University Southeast, and the Taoxichuan Art Museum. In 2025, she will present a large-scale outdoor sculpture as a long-term public installation for RokkoMeets Art 2025 beyond (Kobe, Japan). In 2026, she is scheduled to give a lecture and workshop at theUniversity of North Texas (USA), expanding her engagement with international ceramic education. Through her practice, she seeks to evoke a sense of quiet depth, connecting the materiality of clay withthe unseen layers of emotion and time.

Beginning Print: Relief- Summer 2025

Are you interested in printmaking? Do you love the smell of ink and working with a community of peers? Join us for Begnning Relief Printmaking, this Summer.

In this 5 week course, we will learn to design, carve, and print beautiful and engaging woodcuts on to paper.

This is a beginning course. Course runs from May 19th through June 20th.

This exhibition features work by students in CVAD’s Bachelor of Fine Arts Studio Art program with a concentration in Printmaking. This senior show is the culmination of their dedication and creative exploration. The pieces on view were created using a range of printmaking techniques, including screenprint, lithography, relief, monoprint, bookbinding, intaglio and mixed media.
