My first solo album K2 is out on @rupturedthelabel available on all platforms. I edited a film for it, you can watch it on YouTube. You can also buy a tape on Bandcamp (all links in bio) 🌝

Mixed and drum-machined by @fadi_tabbal at @tuneforkstudios 💚
Design by @josettekhalil 💚
Huge thanks to @ramzi.mrn ♥️ @fadi_tabbal , @juliasabra , @pas_makdous , @tamarasaade_ , manal z, @adaharb , @maraingea , @georgyflouty , @josettekhalil and @z.nawfal 💚

About the album:

My brother Karim passed away in August 2014. He loved music, animals, and okra. He often wrote philosophical manifestos that only made sense to him, and would get angry when it didn’t make sense to everyone else. He was funny, sensitive and misunderstood, an eternal teenager forced to live an adult’s life.

For a while I was afraid to write a solo album, because I knew that it would be about him. I knew that I would have to sit with my memories and think about what it was like to know him and lose him. In the summer of 2023, I finally decided to start recording songs from ideas I’ve had over the past 10 years. While composing, I set restrictions for myself to make sure I would get something done: 18 tracks, no longer than 3 minutes, recorded at home using only the gear I had. Each song connected to a memory, and as a whole, a jumbled timeline of meeting and grieving my brother.

I edited a film to go along with the album, because it made more sense to me as a soundtrack. Most of the footage was shot by my mom in Hong Kong, where Karim lived at the time. The rest I gathered over the years, filming my family obsessively after I realized how little recorded images I had of my brother. While editing, I tried to recreate the feeling of each memory using footage I already had. It was frustrating, because recorded memories are often not the ones you want to remember the most. The memories that stick are the unrecorded ones, the unexpected moments and conversations that are so captivating that you wouldn’t think to record them in the moment. They will never be clear images, but a version of them exists in my mind, which will fade eventually, and another version now exists in these songs and visuals.

Album of the Day: @ccabbabe Camille Cabbabe - K2 ( @rupturedthelabel )

K2 is a deeply personal album by Lebanese filmmaker and musician Camille Cabbabe, inspired by the memory of her late brother, Karim, who passed away in 2014. This introspective project intertwines song and visual storytelling, capturing a complex timeline of grief, memory, and familial love.

Mighty glad whenever Daryl Worthington @daryl.worthington reviews a cassette release by Ruptured, in this case Camille Cabbabe’s terribly moving K2:

“We’re invited into an intimate map of the marks one person can leave on another. The music is joyful while the hazy production infuses a sense of fleetingness throughout. When there are vocals we’re given snapshots, fragments of anecdotes blurring into one another, stories and recollections processed through the shimmer. On ‘Pulling It Off’ a moving depiction of how someone who’s passed away can continue to be present long after they’re gone. K2 is a celebration of Karim, and a testament that feeling loss is in itself life-affirming.”

Read Daryl’s Spool’s Out column over at thequietus.com @thequietus.

Elsewhere at sun-13.com @sun13music, Simon Kirk calls K2 “absolute gold dust (…) an emotive work said to reflect on grief, memory, and family, (and) the sort of record that opens a pathway to new possibilities. And good ones too, in what is a very strong debut outing from Cabbabe.”
Grateful to him for taking the time to listen.

Lastly, K2 rubs shoulders with the greats (claire rousay, Kali Malone, Nala Sinephro, and Kelly Lee Owens, among others), on Alex Ruder’s terrific broadcast “Pacific Notions” on KEXP @kexp.
You can stream the show anytime before March 23rd from KEXP’s 2-week streaming archives or from the KEXP app.

We still have a handful of Camille’s cassettes available to purchase on our Bandcamp page (link in bio). And peeps in Montreal, feel free to DM us for a copy, we deliver within (geographic) reason 🛴

🚨 New Release: Camille Cabbabe – K2 🚨

Ruptured is proud to present K2, the debut solo album by Lebanese filmmaker and musician Camille Cabbabe @ccabbabe, out February 21, 2025, on cassette and digital.

Written in memory of her late brother, Karim, K2 is a collection of 18 short, intimate pieces, recorded at home over the summer of 2023. The album reflects on the passage of time and the way certain moments—whether captured or not—stay with us. Each track is a snapshot, a sonic imprint of memories that remain vivid despite their impermanence.

The album is accompanied by a film, created from home videos and personal footage, offering a visual counterpart to the music. While K2 stands alone as an album, its connection to the film deepens the experience, blending sound and image into a layered reflection on memory.

The film can be viewed on Ruptured’s YouTube channel at https://youtube.com/rupturedthelabel

Composed, recorded and performed by Camille Cabbabe, except for the vocals on “Casamento” recorded by Fadi Tabbal at Tunefork Studios, and additional guitar on “Different” and “Crows” performed by Karim Kabbabe.

Rhythm Wolf by Fadi Tabbal.

Produced by Camille Cabbabe and Fadi Tabbal @fadi_tabbal.

Mixed by Fadi Tabbal at @tuneforkstudios, Beirut.
Mastered by Lopazz at Mix Mastering, Germany.

Design by Josette “ZOoz” Khalil @josettekhalil.

🔗 Orders now available via our linktree. Cassettes are limited to 50 copies.
