We’re coming to Brussels with some of our residents. Makaan exists as a platform for artists who remain unseen and unheard; shaped by borders, restrictions, and everything in between.

Why Brussels?

Brussels feels like an important place for this. A city shaped by movement, migration, and different histories where many voices are still unheard due to ongoing restrictions. It’s about being present. About showing that we exist, and creating a space for others to find us, share their sound, and connect.

Residents:

@anahitashamsaei : Born in Sheffield, grew up in Iran Founder of Makaan Records, for Anahita techno is rooted in identity, resistance, and connection.

@aramdien : Iranian-born, self-taught artist guided by the belief that music is a universal language beyond borders.

@taha.one1 : Algerian-born artist blending North African and Saharan textures with hypnotic techno.

@_sbbsxx_ : French-born, London-based artist with Moroccan and Algerian roots, crafting hypnotic, bass-driven sets shaped by rhythm and belonging.

2024 has seen our next collective staying true to what they believe in throughout, and are coming out the other side stronger than ever. Since their very first edition @makaan___ have been committed to the platforming unseen and unheard artists from the SWANA* & MENA regions, and have recently launched a label to accompany their blossoming event series.

Next Saturday night from 23:00, Makaan return to our Steam Room with their seventh event - an 11 hour extended edition - and conclude a monumental year for the collective.

As with their previous events, their first artist - @aramdien - will join them virtually due to visa and border restrictions and will be screened via our projector.

Introducing our third artist for our 10 hours techno journey.

@aramdien a resident artist at Makaan Records andone of old school artists within Iranian music scene. Based in Iran, he has over 15 years of experience in music production and DJing, starting his career within the country’s underground music community.

Though he briefly relocated to Istanbul, Turkey, where he performed at venues like Suma Han and Temple…! Araam returned to Iran, where he continues to make an impact. His unique sound has made him a recognized name in the electronic music scene, with gigs extending to cities like Tbilisi, Georgia, at TES Club.

Although travel restrictions have prevented Araam from playing at events like Makaan 7 @fold.ldn in London, he remains dedicated to sharing his music with the world. His story highlights the challenges faced by artists from regions with limited global access, but Araam’s passion keeps him pushing boundaries, connecting with audiences through virtual performances and beyond.
