Pier 29 just got a little more bookable 🌊✨
Sightline is officially open for programming proposals and rental inquiries! We’re reserving space for subsidized, community-centered events led by artists, nonprofits, and mission-aligned orgs while also welcoming corporate and private event rentals.
The best part? Every corporate and private rental helps power affordable arts programming and keeps the pier buzzing with community energy.

Welcome to Sightline at Pier 29 ✨
@castsf, in partnership with @sf_port, is transforming San Francisco’s waterfront into the city’s largest open studio and exhibition space for artists with over 120,000 square feet dedicated to residencies, exhibitions, events, and public programming.
Sightline will be an intersectional space for artists and communities to gather in the spirit of mutual aid, co-learning, and placemaking.
Opening in early 2026, we can’t wait to share more as the journey unfolds. Stay tuned.

We made something special for this one ✨
Our first Artist Mixer invite came to life as a bold riso print of the Pier 29 building, printed by the lovely @friendsandneighborssf. A physical piece to match the spirit of what we’re building: experimental, community-driven, and made by hand.
This print was our way of putting the invitation out into the world, giving people something to hold, share, and pass along as we start to grow the Sightline network.
Curious about what’s next? Join our mailing list (🔗 in bio) to stay in the loop on upcoming mixers and ways to get involved.

Meet Sightline’s Creative Director, Marco de la Vega 👋
Marco brings over two decades of experience shaping the Bay Area’s cultural landscape, from grassroots organizing and artistic practice to launching and operating some of the region’s most influential music venues. As a former marketing director, talent buyer, and general manager for places like @mezzaninesf, @publicworkssf, @theloomoakland, and more, Marco has collaborated with independent venues, major museums, nonprofits, and global companies. In every project, he brings a focus on building systems that actually support artists and the communities around them.
At Sightline, he leads with a human-centered approach, integrating data, emerging technologies, and real community engagement to reimagine how arts organizations operate and sustain themselves. His goal is to create frameworks where artistic integrity and financial sustainability don’t compete, but grow together.

Last Sunday, we hosted a small artist mixer at Sightline. It was our first dip in the water and a chance to start sharing what we’re building with the wider artist community.
We featured local artwork throughout the space as a preview of what’s possible, bringing the vision to life and sparking ideas about how the space can evolve.
People showed up with curiosity, asked thoughtful questions, and started imagining how they might create with us, be supported by this space, and help shape what Sightline becomes. This is the kind of engagement with artists that inspires us—building together to go further, and making something that reflects the communities it’s for.
Want to join the next one? Sign up for our mailing list (🔗 in bio) to be the first to hear when the next mixer is announced. More info to come.

The vision for Sightline is taking shape.
Earlier this year, we began prototyping our movable walls at Pier 29—one of the key elements that will make the space flexible for exhibitions, performances, gatherings, and creative experimentation. Designed to adapt and evolve with each activation, these walls will allow artists and partners to transform the space in real time, creating new configurations within the larger shed.
With hidden storage and a skeleton sturdy enough to support a variety of media, these walls will provide the containers to accommodate everything from an intimate show to a larger art expo.
We want you to help shape this space with us! What program, event, or exhibition do you want to bring to Sightline? Share your big idea via our inquiries form (🔗 in bio).

Thank you to the @nytimes for highlighting Pier 29, the creative vision of @artpluswater, and the incredible potential this project has to offer for the community 🌊
CAST took on this project for two reasons:
1️⃣ to create more affordable space for artists
2️⃣ to activate Pier 29 with cultural programming that keeps the waterfront alive and accessible
But even with big vision, this pier is a challenging space.
We’re rolling up our sleeves at Pier 29—navigating codes, engineering around constraints, and building what’s needed to make this pier work for artists. CAST is actively shaping the space, working alongside arts and cultural partners around the Bay Area to inform how Sightline comes to life.
This is not a traditional landlord role simply about leasing space; it’s hands-on partnership to build the infrastructure needed to support artists in realizing their creative vision.
Because creativity doesn’t start on opening night—it lives across rehearsals, rough drafts and prototypes, and with making a space viable.

San Francisco’s cultural legacy was built by artists, and its future depends on artists being able to build lasting lives here.
Thank you to the @nytimes and @zacharyhsmall for spotlighting how skyrocketing real estate prices have pushed creatives out of the very neighborhoods they helped define, and how innovative models like ours are working to change that.

Why Sightline? 🤔
As we’ve been shaping this new arts space on the waterfront, we wanted a name that captured both its physical experience and its deeper purpose. Sightline felt just right.
At its simplest, a sightline is the imaginary line between your eye and what you see. It’s used in visual art and architecture, and it speaks directly to what will unfold inside Pier 29, whether you’re looking at artwork in the gallery, watching a performance, or catching a moment of creation in the studios.
Inside the space, the name reflects the many lines of sight created by the maze of walls and activations, where multiple things can be happening at once. Outside, it nods to the literal horizon of the San Francisco Bay, stretching out beyond the pier. On another level, Sightline suggests clarity of vision, purpose, and intention. It’s an invitation to look forward together as we imagine what a creative, community-centered space can be.
Thank you @mccalmanco for designing this visual identity and helping bring this name and vision to life 💙
We can’t wait for you to experience what this name represents when we open in early 2026.
