Our latest exhibition, Wallflower, curated by Lindsey Sharman, steps inside the intimate, private spaces that wallpaper envelops. Featuring contemporary and historic works from artists like Dorothy Knowles, Zachari Logan, and William Notman, this exhibition explores how repeating patterns shift from the commonplace into protagonists of our domestic lives.

Funded by the Poole Centre of Design, Wallflower challenges you to look closer at the invisible design surrounding us.

TREX artist spotlight: Briana Tosswill @penrosepress.ca

Brianna Tosswill is a printmaker and mixed media artist creating from a deeply analog sensibility. Her art is driven by conversation and social interaction. A selection of prints from her series, 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘏𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘫𝘦𝘤𝘵, was featured alongside work from Gillian Willans and Melissa Baron in the TREX exhibition, 𝘙𝘰𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘰 𝘙𝘦𝘧𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵. Brianna also has an exhibition of new work opening at @dhartworld in Edmonton on Saturday, May 23!

"𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘏𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘫𝘦𝘤𝘵 is a creation rooted in conversation, rendered in linocut printmaking, and designed to inspire comfort-seeking. From 2021-2023, I interviewed people about comfort, and used these dialogues to inspire imaginary rooms in my artwork. Each room houses one or two protagonists, occasionally accompanied by their loved ones or pets.... Even though I designed each space with its inhabitant specifically in mind, I like to imagine them visiting each other, taking solace in different kinds of comfort, just like you can by looking at this artwork."

Meet Vania Ryan, the AGA’s very first RBC Arts Leadership Intern. Raised in rural southern Alberta, Vania has a soft spot for the prairies and a genuine appreciation for its collaborative arts scene.🌾

Fresh off completing her MA in Art History at Concordia University (2023), Vania recently moved to Edmonton to be closer to family and to further expand her emerging skills in research-creation, public programming, and curation. While in Montreal, Vania worked alongside independent artist Skawennati as her studio assistant and as a research assistant with Aboriginal Territories in Cyberspace (AbTeC).

Her likes? ✅ Conceptual art, post-punk music and a rowdy game of cards. Her no-thanks list? 👎Mascots, squirrels and cuts to arts funding.

The AGA RBC Arts Leadership Internship is a six-month opportunity designed to support emerging arts professionals—offering hands-on experience, skill-building, and a strong launchpad into leadership roles in the cultural sector.
