📣 10 days to go until ‘An Evening with Siana Bangura & Friends’ and we’re thrilled to tell you more about our friends!

Taking to the stage at @theplaygroundtheatre on Saturday 30th May to celebrate the 10th anniversary of ‘Elephant’, by @sianaarrgh will be the one and only Abu B. Yillah! 🇸🇱

Abu B. Yillah is a British-Sierra Leonean writer, performer, filmmaker & cultural curator. He has trained at Kingdom School of Arts and is a peer in the Soho Theatre Writers’ Lab 25/26 cohort. His debut solo spoken-word theatrical show, ‘Somewhere Between,’ is an exploration of the life and times of a 3rd-cultured immigrant child who grows up to struggle with his national identities, personalities & fatherhood.

Alongside his artistry, Abu co-curates the Sierra Leone Arts & Culture festival (#SLACfest) – a celebration of all things Sierra Leone. He is also a co-founder of The Young Sierra Leonean CIC, an organisation that amplifies the work of Sierra Leonean creatives.

Abu is currently writing his first full-length play. 🎭

We look forward to Abu’s poetry set! 🎤

📣 Just two weeks to go until ‘An Evening with Siana Bangura & Friends’ - my special anniversary show celebrating 10yrs since I published my debut body of work, ‘Elephant’. 🐘🐘🐘

2016 was a time! Brexit, Lemonade, Trump’s first stint in the White House, Global BLM uprisings (with more waves to follow in the years to come), among many, many other moments of note. Much of these lived experiences are documented and archived in ‘Elephant’, because it is an artist’s duty to reflect the times (shout out Nina Simone).

A decade ago, we packed out Hackney Attic to celebrate the arrival of this work, with gorgeous souls like @ayellemusic @janelantoneshia & others joining me on stage.

In 2026, we’re hitting up West London, reminiscing and throwing it back at @theplaygroundtheatre with my brilliant peers @abubyillah @toluagbelusi taking to the stage to share their poetry, and @marcusjosephsax (who joined me in 2016) returns with his saxophone as we marry poetry and music - a most perfect union. 🎶 🖊️ 🎷

🔗 Head to the link in my bio and/ or scan the QR code to grab your tickets. Don’t leave it to the last minute!

Really looking forward to seeing many of you there! Let’s go! #ThisIsElephant

Between a Londoner and a Freetonian!

One of my favorite performances at the #sierraleone diaspora investment conference was @abubyillah’s poem about belonging.

Abu I hate to ask you to repeat this performance at SLDIC 2026 in London but can you? 😁

We gather each year at the conference because it always feels like a homecoming.

Really looking forward to all the greatness that will be on stage @icparklane when 🇸🇱 pulls up!

📣 Thrilled to (finally!) announce that I’ve got a special show coming up THIS MONTH!

To celebrate 10 years since the publication of my first body of work, ‘Elephant’, I’ve curated an evening of poetry, music, film and celebration to mark this milestone!

Join me on Saturday 30th May at @theplaygroundtheatre in West London for ‘An Evening with Siana Bangura & Friends’ | Celebrating 10 Years of ‘Elephant’ 🎤

We’ll be throwing it back to 2016, a significant socio-political moment and period of unrest (little has changed on that front). We’ll be digging deep into my archives - an archive of Black British womanhood and Black British Feminism, of Generation Clapback, of Black Twitter and community, of gentrification, displacement, love, loss, coming of age, and all the messy, beautiful things in between.

(Shout out to @consciousdreamspublishing for guiding and mentoring me all those years ago, helping me set-up the necessary creative infrastructures to get my work out into the world. 📚)

Joining me on stage on Saturday 30th May will be my friends and peers whose work I celebrate too:

🎤 @toluagbelusi
🎤 @abubyillah
🎷 @marcusjosephsax

🔗: Head to the link in my bio for your tickets and/or scan the QR code to join us and we’ll see you there! Spread the word far and wide!

Your girl can officially say she’s a performing POET now 🥳

On Saturday I took @young_salone stage at Kip Kompin, and my my, I could not have chosen a better room for my poetry debut 🥺
The videos are coming!!!!

But let’s soak in this gratitude for now..

From the Black Superhero himself @abubyillah for curating this space 10th year in a row to celebrate and highlight Sierra Leonean talent 🙌🏿

To@sianaarrgh my favourite woman, the hostess with the most fabulousness who finally got me on stage 🫶🏿

To every single person @young_salone team who made this event a success, and @lightbulbcollective1 for capturing the energy in such stunning images.

And of course, not the least, my people who have loved me in every way, encouraged me to keep writing, to give my work my voice someday, thank you for coming. For sitting, for hearing, seeing, holding me over and over again without ever making me feel too much. I love you plenty plenty.

We are just getting started 🥳

Thoroughly enjoyed hosting duties at the first @young_salone Kip Kompin event of the year. 🎤 ✨

Such great energy in the room and an abundance of talent on stage!

More hosting duties this year me thinks (back in the day I used to host events a lot!). Book me! 👀

And shout out to Saloneans near and far on our Bun Babylon Day. ✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽 ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

We still have a long road to travel, but I’ll keep believing in us - the people - and what so many of us are trying to build, whether in country or in the diaspora. We are the people that persevere. Wi get na an en wi tranga yese. 🥊👂🏽

So, here’s to being a hybrid, blend up, mix-up mix-up of a whole heapa tings and layers of complexity as a people. We keep going, wherever we are. 🇸🇱🇸🇱🇸🇱

(Fun fact: My extremely talented mother helped me make these trousers after I started the year by completing a seamstress course to get away from being shackled to my laptop! [Like rice, there’s now Lucy & Yak at home 😆] Multi-talented Salone babes for real! 🧵 🪡 🪄 👖)

Unu Api Api Independence Day.
Today wi dey celebrate 65years of independence.
This year I wanted to reflect on what independence and mama Salone meant to me as your favourite hot gyal historian.
For me being Sierra Leonean family has been the foundation of who I am , but family has become more than just it’s generic form it has showed itself in many ways.

Fambul- The 🇸🇱Krio term for ‘Family’ from the Jamaican 🇯🇲 pronunciation of Family- Fambly

My biological family I love you forever word to my viens.

But now to my community I have been blessed to have found Fambul in my peoples @young_salone Young Salone have supported my dreams , pushed me in doors and connected me to many people . Today we were surprised to find out we would be acknowledged for our work in the community at the Sierra Leone independence Celebration at Camden Town hall.
Now to our Fambul in the diaspora and as the historian I am today was also a moment in history. Black British history, and Sierra Leonean history.

Literally in our life time the first mayor of African decent in Camden isalso Sierra Leonean. @eddiehanson88 An individual who supports our community, his borough, and so many other organisations with his time, politeness and charisma truly serving his community throughout boroughs . Today he invited the community to celebrate our independence and celebrate the community service of us in the diaspora .This was also the first time our independence has been celebrated at the town hall another one for the history books. Mayor Hansons story was also spoken of and truly left the younger generations inspired . We gave him his flowers today because when we talk about role models he definitely checks my list , happy to serve and always with a smile.

This independence leh wi love wi sef , let us find Fambul wherever we find ourselves and support wi sef.

Land that we love🇸🇱
