Passing by the CEID? You may have noticed an enlightening transformation recently! There's still time to experience the "Signal Symphony" lighting up the Becton walkway. As part of this week's Yale Center for Collaborative Arts and Media ( @yaleccam ) Symposium: Illuminations, this project has been shining brightly in front of the CEID, with turn signals turning heads as people observe the visual and auditory medley playing out right beneath their feet.

Created by Mechanical Engineering and Art senior Jason Nuttle ( @nuttlejason ) during his time as a CCAM Studio Fellow, the "Signal Symphony" is a luminous and aural sculpture comprising miniature cars with turn signals flashing in and out of sync, creating a hypnotic, arrhythmic blend of light and sound. It's a brilliant fusion of art and engineering you won't want to miss! Stop by and see for yourself while you still can!

Check out the other CCAM Symposium events, today and tomorrow from 5:00pm to 9:00pm, at 149 York Street.

Last week, students in ENAS 118: Introduction to Engineering, Innovation, and Design showcased their final projects, and we couldn’t be prouder! From unique twists on the classic game Pong to devices that can sort objects by color, these projects demonstrated the many skills the students learned throughout the semester: coding, 3D printing, CAD modeling, circuit building, and more.

Many of the students had little to no experience in these areas before taking the class, and their final projects reflect countless hours of brainstorming, prototyping, and problem-solving—a real testament to their hard work and dedication.

A big shout out to all the ENAS 118 students for their efforts and their instructor Dr. Larry Wilen for his guidance and support!

We had a wonderful time last week connecting with the Yale community, past and present, during the 2024 YAA Assembly and Convocation!

Under the program theme “Leading for a Better World: Advancements in Health, Historical Inquiry, and the Environment at Yale,” we welcomed alumni back to explore some inspiring student projects, celebrate CEID milestones, and dive into our shared passion for innovation.

It was an honor to host alumni leaders in a space that has evolved so much since some had last visited — from the Engineering and Applied Science Library to today’s hub of creativity and progress. We can’t wait to see where future Yale alumni take us next!
