Womens' Photo Alliance NYC
Our mission is to support female-identifying photographers, offer multiple perspectives, and make the point of view of women more universal.

Hello. My name is Alicia Vera (@aliciavera), and I’m a photographer based between Mexico City and Miami, FL. In 2018, I started a project called Va a Llover Toda La Noche (It’s Going to Rain All Night) @vallovertodalanoche_alzheimers after my mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
I began the project because I was overwhelmed with feelings. On one hand, I was relieved to finally have an answer to what was happening to her. There were subtle but noticeable changes in my mom's behavior. Gaps of time would escape her, she began losing things, forgetting things and became increasingly paranoid. The diagnosis helped us understand what next steps to take.
But I was also completely devastated knowing that my mom’s mental capacity would slowly decline. After years of rebelling against her, I was finally starting to get to know her as a person beyond just being my mom. And now I was losing her.
It’s the most heartbreaking news I’ve ever received.

Laura Lamb Mallet @lauralambmallet here with my penultimate post on my @wpanyc takeover.
It’s mainly notes and ideas that fill up my sketchbooks at the moment, but that is my workflow – absolute chaos and a hope the mess will untangle itself…
Mother Damnable was a witch who lived in a cottage on the site of Camden Town Tube station. She was a well-known shrew of Kentish Town, daughter of one Jacob Bingham, a local brickmaker. Very many people suddenly remembered having seen, after her last appearance in public, the Devil entering her house. No one, however, had seen him come out again.
My friends and I grew up in and around Camden, this is where we became women, this is where my ‘coven’ began…

‘In my End is my Beginning...’
Hello, good morning! Laura Lamb Mallet @lauralambmallet still here taking over the @wpanyc Instagram – welcome to the final day!
These are some VERY EARLY images from my work ‘HAMMER’ another WIP this time exploring the legacy and lasting impact of ‘Malleus Maleficarum’ (The Hammer of Witches) by Heinrich Kramer published in 1486. The book is ‘proof that witchcraft exists, followed by an explanation of the powers of witches and instructions on how to conduct a witch trial.’
‘‘In my End is my Beginning’ is the saying which Mary Queen of Scots embroidered on her cloth of estate whilst in prison in England and is the theme running through her life. It symbolises the eternity of life after death and Mary probably drew her inspiration from the emblem adopted by her grandfather-in-law, François I of France: the salamander. The Salamander self-ignites at the end of its life, and then rises up from the ashes re-born...

‘I will show you fear in a handful of dust.’
‘VIPERA’ asks how we carry our beginnings within us, and how the maternal relationship continues to echo through the body long after childhood has ended. This work is made in collaboration with my mum Deborah @debsking2020 who is a brilliant writer. She wrote a beautifully poignant piece in response to her first viewing of the images, in this she describes the first few days we spent together, or rather apart.
Below is an extract from ‘The Waste Land’ by author T.S Elliot.
-
A heap of broken images, where the sun beats,
And the dead tree gives no shelter, the cricket no relief,
And the dry stone no sound of water. Only
There is shadow under this red rock,
(Come in under the shadow of this red rock),
And I will show you something different from either
Your shadow at morning striding behind you
Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you;
I will show you fear in a handful of dust.

Hello, good morning! My name is Laura Lamb Mallet @lauralambmallet and I’ll be taking over the @wpanyc Instagram for the next few days – welcome to day two!
I find it almost impossible to bring projects to a close, they seem to be all so intrinsically linked that they blur together. The next two projects I’ll be sharing over the rest of my takeover are still WIP (so be kind!!!!!) ✨
These are some images from my work ‘VIPERA’ 2025 – present. This project explores the unstable terrain between birth, presence, and emotional memory. I am interested in what is inherited emotionally, and with the ways family relationships can shape our understanding of the body, intimacy and selfhood. I look at my relationship with my mother, my place as a daughter, sister and possible mother as both an intimate bond and a site of tension.

@lauralambmallet signing off for the evening. Before I go we are due a heatwave over in the UK this weekend so I wanted to leave you with more HOT pics from ‘NEW EROTICA’
My pictures are images of women, for women, by a woman.Essentially the project combines everything I know about erotic imagery, mixes it all together, and squeezes out a paste resembling my own perception of female sexuality. My work intends to spark the beginning of a dialogue in which female sexuality can be discussed in a more productive and progressive way.

More from ‘NEW EROTICA’ 2018 -
’NEW EROTICA’ is a body of work aimed at addressing the complicated relationship between desire, narcissism and arousal. It is an exploration of female representation and sexuality, an infusion of the traditional with the contemporary, as both an inclusion and subversion of societal norms.

Laura Lamb Mallet @lauralambmallet here, showing more work from my series ‘NEW EROTICA’ 2018 -
I wouldn’t describe myself as a ‘scopophiliac’, but like most people I take a lot of pleasure in looking - arguably too much pleasure. My practice is forged from a deep curiosity within me, and a questioning of the assumption that, as a woman, my whole perception of sexuality and the erotic can merely be a product of a patriarchal society. Like many other women, I believe that my instinctual wants and desires are much more than that, and this is underrepresented.

RISE AND SHINE, GOOD MORNING NEW YORK! ✨
My name is Laura Lamb Mallet @lauralambmallet and I’ll be taking over the @wpanyc Instagram for the next few days!
I am a lens-based artist, educator and podcast host (isn’t everyone!) from Bristol, Uk. My work explores the role of the female body in contemporary culture, and the wider representation of sexuality in popular culture. Through my images I address the complicated relationship between desire, narcissism and the perception of sexuality and arousal.
These are some excerpts from my work ‘NEW EROTICA’ which I began during my MA at UWE Bristol.
‘NEW EROTICA’ (2018-) - brings together a series of seductive images that infuse traditional notions of the erotic with her own contemporary versions of it, exploring personal pleasure and challenging societal norms.

Hello WPANYC ★ Thanks for joining me on the final day of my takeover! My name is Margeaux Lau, and I’m a portrait photographer and multidisciplinary artist, born in NYC and raised in Southern California.
I was first introduced to photography by my aunt, Maria Lau @marialaulens, a fine art photographer whose work centers on our family’s Cuban-Chinese heritage. I remember spending my early summers in NYC and standing beside her in the darkroom, watching images slowly emerge in trays of chemicals and learning that photographs weren’t just taken, but carefully made with intention.
That early fascination and sense of possibility continue to shape both my work and the person I am becoming.
Endless gratitude to my Tía, whose love and artistry first opened that door for me, to my family and mentors who guided me along the way, and to my friends, who continue to inspire so much of what I create. And a big thank you to WPANYC for the opportunity to share my work among so many artists I deeply admire ♥️

And a big thank you to WPANYC for the opportunity to share my work among so many artists I deeply admire ♥️
