On the occasion of the exhibition of South African artist @igshaan.adams’s work in the @museoguggenheim, @worksandprocess in collaboration with the Museum, organized two performances with South African based group @garagedanceensemble, and a discussion with Adams.

On May 4-5 in Bilbao, Spain, Garage Dance Ensemble shared their overpowering energy with audiences. The dancers have worked with Igshaan Adams in the creation of some of the works currently on display in the Museum. In his practice, moving bodies on ink applied linoleum floors covered with canvas leave traces of personal and collective memories. Adams collects them to highlight the connections between people and between individuals and the community.

Choreographed and Directed by: Byron Klassen
Technical director: Faroll Coetzee
Performers: Georgia Julies, Manon-Lee Saal, Keeanu Samuels, Druwayne Strauss

Activities organized with the collaboration of @worksandprocess, with the support of @a4artsfoundation and @hillartfoundation.

#HappyBirthday to Countertenor and @operaphila General Director & President @arcostanzo! He was most recently at @worksandprocess in January 2026 showing excerpts from Complications in Sue by Michael R. Jackson before the world premiere at Opera Philadelphia in February. To watch the full performance at Works & Process at @guggenheim, visit YouTube.com/worksandprocess!

This new work showed how one librettist, one actor, four singers, and ten composers joined forces to make opera in a brand-new way. In his first opera libretto, Pulitzer Prize– and Tony Award–winning playwright Michael R. Jackson (A Strange Loop) trace the life of a woman named Sue over ten decades. Sue’s life—from the mundane to the extraordinary—unfolds, with each chapter scored by a different musical luminary.

Panel

___

A few days ago, we experienced a powerful performance at the Museum by Garage Dance Ensemble presented in collaboration with Works & Process.

Their presence at the opening of 'in situ: Unsettling Dust: The Archive of the Body' connects to Igshaan Adams’s creative process, developed in collaboration with dancers.

The artworks in the exhibition come from the artist's belief that dance and movement can address and even heal internal wounds.
