@woosun_cheon Cheon Woo-Sun’s practice merges contemporary metalworking with deep-rooted Korean craft traditions. He primarily works with nickel silver and iron wire. Using techniques such as TIG (argon) welding and silver soldering, he meticulously assembles each wire segment by hand to construct fluid, vessel-like forms. Once the structure is complete, the surface is carefully refined and coated with Ottchil, a traditional Korean lacquer that adds both color and a polished finish. With its rich history and association with fine craftsmanship, Ottchil connects Cheon’s innovative approach to Korea’s longstanding metalworking legacy. Through this blend of modern technique and historical tradition, Cheon continues the evolution of Korean metal artistry.

Visit Soluna Fine Art by 18 October 2025 to see Cheon Woo-Sun’s current solo exhibition, Fullness of Emptiness.

𝐹𝑢𝑙𝑙𝑛𝑒𝑠𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝐸𝑚𝑝𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑒𝑠𝑠, the first solo exhibition by metal craft artist Cheon Woo-Sun @woosun_cheon in Hong Kong, is now officially open. Thank you to everyone who joined us for the opening reception.

Cheon believes that the form of the vessel (器), which lies at the foundation of craft, truly embodies his philosophy. In this exhibition, he reinterprets the traditional structure of Korean ceramics by introducing openings and gaps using metal wires. His technique ensures a seamless flow throughout the sculpture from every angle. Regardless of the viewer’s perspective, a continuous sense of movement and fluidity is maintained. This approach brings the work to life, offering a dynamic experience that invites engagement from multiple viewpoints.

The exhibition is on view at Soluna Fine Art through 18 October 2025.

#Upcoming 𝐹𝑢𝑙𝑙𝑛𝑒𝑠𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝐸𝑚𝑝𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑒𝑠𝑠

Soluna Fine Art proudly presents Korean metal craft artist Cheon Woo-Sun @woosun_cheon ’s inaugural solo exhibition in Hong Kong, 𝐹𝑢𝑙𝑙𝑛𝑒𝑠𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝐸𝑚𝑝𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑒𝑠𝑠. Drawing inspiration from the rich tradition of Korean ceramics, Cheon reimagines the forms of bowls and vessels through the medium of metal and Ottchil (Korean lacquer). In his practice, each wire is meticulously welded, with the creation process approached as a three-dimensional sketch. By deconstructing forms into points and lines, each metal wire converges to form hollow planes, gradually shaping the overall piece. Embodying the philosophy that to fill, one must first empty, Cheon’s Open Vase series invites viewers to contemplate the fundamental relationship between presence and absence.

𝐹𝑢𝑙𝑙𝑛𝑒𝑠𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝐸𝑚𝑝𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑒𝑠𝑠 will be on view at Soluna Fine Art from 9 to 18 October 2025, with an opening reception on 9 October (Thurs) at 6 - 8 pm.

Cheon Woo-Sun’s works will also be featured in Fine Art Asia 2025 from 4 to 7 October 2025.
