Introducing Wicked Queer 42.
This yearβs theme is Queer Audacity, a reminder that we need to celebrate, uplift, and to own our collective and personal power as Queer people. We picked a symbol this year to represent this energy, The Lavender Rhinoceros.
Some local history: A lavender rhino caused a lot of controversy in Boston during the 1970s. Why this purplish rhino you may ask? To quote the folks at Gay Media Action-Advertising (led by Bernie Tol and Daniel Thaxton), βIt is a much maligned and misunderstood animal. β The color came from the mixture of pink and blue, a symbolic merger of the masculine and feminine.
We call upon this energy to uplift, celebrate, and to bring to light our stories, struggles, our history, laughter, joy and tears, and to give us the courage to take up space and to use our horns when needed. This yearβs festival celebrates the storytelling of our community in the over 100 films we are screening at the 6 venues across the metro Boston area, running from Gaypril 3-16, 2026. Our 42nd annual program celebrates local trailblazers and icons of Queer cinema, as well as, stoner comedies, love against all odds, demonic babies, haunted appliances, time travel, volcanic eruptions and the power of friendship and Queer family.
We ask you to join us in solidarity and community at our programs, and encourage you to see as many films from all over the world to learn a little more about each other through the power of cinema storytelling. We are all in this together; united together, there is nothing we canβt do.
You know we love a little tease.. Bostonβs gayest, raunchiest, and freakiest film festival is BACK!
Wicked Queer: Bostonβs LGBTQ+ film festival is Gaypril 3rd-16th, 2026. Weβll see you there π

Screening tomorrow at IFFBoston 2026: "ADAM'S APPLE"
5PM, April 27th, at The Brattle - With director Amy Jenkins in attentance!
An intimate, collaborative documentary told through the dual perspectives of Adam, a transgender teen, and his mother, visual artist Amy Jenkins (INSTRUCTIONS ON PARTING, IFFBoston 2018), that offers an authentic and tender counterpoint to the hostility facing trans youth today. Adamβs journey balances the milestones of gender transition with the rhythms of adolescence. As Adam asserts his identity and steps out into the world, his parents grapple with the challenges of raising a teen while learning to let go. Through a visually poetic approach, the film transforms a deeply personal archive, collected over two decades, into a powerful, joyful testament to the beauty and difficulty of reckoning with profound change.

TOMORROW at IFF BOSTON! Wicked Queer is proud to copresent "AS I AM"
12PM - April 25th - The Brattle Theatre - With filmmakers in attendance!
Amir, a 60-year-old Iranian man, arrives in Hingham, Massachusetts, on a tourist visa and rents an Airbnb across the street from the house of Fariborzβan old friend and former comrade from the Iran-Iraq war, now living with his distant wife and young grandson. They havenβt seen each other in over forty years.
Curious and uncertain, Amir begins observing Fariborzβs life from a distance. Suspicions arise, and he is forced to reveal himself, and the two men finally come face to face. What begins as a quiet reunion slowly uncovers a bond far deeper than friendshipβa love born during war but never spoken, never lived.

TOMORROW AT IFF BOSTON! Wicked Queer is happy to co-present Maddie's Secret: 9:30PM Tomorrow (April 23rd) at The Brattle.
In MADDIEβS SECRET, essential alt-comedian cum director John Early plays the titular Maddie Ralph, a major foodie who works as a dishwasher at a trendy Los Angeles food content creation company. While her life seems picturesqueβshe simultaneously conceals a dark past with a severe eating disorder. Knowing her history of self-harm conflicts with the perfect image she puts forth to her followers, she continues to hide her bulimic tendencies from friends and family, even when she begins to relapse. With stunning satire and a pitch-perfect read of the cultural room, Earlyβs debut is the announcement of a lively and inventive directorial voice.
