Parker Cohn, 26, was one of the first to come to me when I returned to California. After some real setbacks in his career and right on the edge of throwing it all in for a 9–5, he came to me as a last shot at finding his rhythm again.

What stood out most was that he found me himself. No push from parents, no outside pressure, just persistence. He reminded me of my younger self. He committed to Wave Ki, showed up for the workshop, and then asked to be my mentored student. That kind of initiative and humility says everything.

From there, we went all in. Together, we put in the work to refine his technique and build his confidence so he can adapt to any condition.

Through his commitment to Wave Ki, the reps, his awareness of the people around him, and the support from his parents, friends, the Wave Ki crew, his sponsors, and his filmers, he knew it would take a team of aligned people to build a true champion and he embraced every part of that.

I’m proud of his grit, his patience, and most of all, his love for surfing that kept him going.

Thank you for trusting me as your Sensei.

Stay the course. Keep believing. This is just the beginning.
Congratulations, @parkercohn you’ve earned every bit of it.

“There are a lot of Surf training programs out there.
Most of them don’t work.Wave Ki does — because it delivers real results.” - Gerr

“Want to be one of the best surfers in the world—or just improve your surfing?

Wave Ki is a method built on over five decades of learning, refining, and teaching —helping everyone from beginners to world-class surfers including myself develop technique and style.

It’s not about shortcuts. It’s about focused, intentional practice.

In my experience, this is the most effective Surf improvement training out there—I haven’t seen anything better.

It’s also a weapon for coaches who want to see their students reach their highest skill level. .” - Brad

When it comes to how I teach, I aim to bring out the artist in every #surfer. Why? #Surfing feels best when you are freely expressing yourself by harnessing the power in the waves. I see that as more of a performance #art rather than a sport.
There are techniques to learn, like getting speed instantly or keeping a rail in the water at high speed, and that’s where Wave Ki comes in.

My dad didn’t #surf, but he was a born performer—a daredevil who built his foundation as a world-class #Olympic diver, coming out of communist Hungary. He completely changed the way I approached surfing, introducing me to the artistry of movement.

Before he stepped in, I struggled to find both flow and results. His understanding of movement unlocked something in me that I couldn’t access on my own. What he taught me became the foundation—the true origin—of the #WaveKi method. At the end of the day, it’s your #style and connection to the #waves that set you apart and bring the joy.

A couple of months ago, somewhere on Planet Earth.

Ouch!Obviously, I didn’t see this one coming. The wave was good, and I got the first turn off, but not as clean as I wanted. The section was lining up nicely for a second turn, but a young girl was paddling for the shoulder. She was close, but I knew I had enough time and space to turn before her. I’ve seen people lose their grip on the board while duck diving, of course. But since she was far from a beginner, it never occurred to me that this would happen.

Looking back, it makes me feel that the more intelligent thing to have done was to err on the side of safety. She was trying her best to get out of the way, and honestly, did I really need to go for that 2nd turn? The answer is no, I did not. I mean, what if I had gotten seriously hurt? What if she got seriously hurt? The fault would be mine. I have found that we, as surfers, get so focused on getting our joy that we can miss the bigger picture. The ocean is full of wonder and unpredictability. We love it that way. Knowing that things can change in an instant is a good thing and helps us develop our awareness. This gives us a much higher probability of having a good time every time we jump in.

The purpose of Wave KI is to develop your surf body awareness. What we train so diligently is how your body moves from the finish of a turn to the completion of a turn, so you have the leverage to move freely into the next turn. My knees took the brunt of the board instead of my upper body, and while I feel incredibly lucky, I also credit my technique.

For surfers, paddlers, foilers, and swimmers I’d suggest you find midline and squeeze the thighs towards it.Same with cyclists, same with people driving and flying. The knee squeeze supports center, and a well centered center makes everything easier…

We’re keeping it simple this weekend.

Brad Gerlach will be down at SUR Coffee Huntington Beach with some of the Wave Ki crew from 9am this Saturday 9th May.

If you’re around, come by.

No structure, no pressure—just a chance to connect.
Ask questions, pick his brain, talk story… whatever’s on your mind.

We can get into life, surfing, Wave Ki—or all of it.

Hope to see you there. 🤙

Hi, as most of you there knew, I had to duck out of my 60th before the speeches. We had a situation with my mom… pretty heavy in the moment, but she’s okay now. Thank God. 🙏❤️‍🩹

I didn’t get to stand up and say what I’d planned, which I was really looking forward to, especially with so many people there who mean a lot to me.

But… everything happens how it’s meant to.

So my team and I put this video together. It’s what I wanted to share that night, and a bit of a wrap on the evening.

To everyone in my life who’s shown up, shared waves, stories, laughs, and even the lows… thank you. You mean more to me than you know.

The silver lining is I now get to share this with those who couldn’t be there, and with everyone who’s been part of my path, Family, students, members, friends, and anyone I’ve crossed paths with along the way.
Im grateful to you all.

For the love of surfing… and to the launch of the @bradgerlachfoundation 🤙

Visiting the @waveki family and coming back home with the qualifications to spread the love and knowledge around Australia as an accredited waveki instructor and I can not wait.

I have been training with @waveki for the past 8 years and have learnt so much in and out of the water and am so grateful for the time and energy Brad has given me. Being apart of this team is so exciting and I cannot wait to share the benefits of WaveKi and its modern way of learning to surf !
