Being a gallery director has never just been about hanging work on walls for me. It has always been about people.
Before opening @warnescontemporary in Brooklyn, I was curating exhibitions, organizing gatherings, and creating opportunities for artists to come together around their work. Over the years, Iβve had the privilege of curating numerous exhibitions, each one teaching me something new about trust, collaboration, and the power of shared creative energy.
When I opened the gallery, I knew I wanted it to be more than an exhibition space. I wanted it to feel alive. A place where artists and community members could come not only to view art, but to connect, learn, and feel welcomed.
The most meaningful moments for me arenβt just opening nights, theyβre the workshops where we can bring our community members into the space to connect over creating, the curator walkthroughs where we share a deeper understanding of the work, and the conversations between artists and visitors.
Warnes Contemporary has been a journey of intuition, risk, and deep care for the artists I work with. Every exhibition, gathering, and conversation adds another layer to what this space is becoming: a creative home shaped collectively by the community that walks through its doors.
