custom chess bday gift for the goat roomie
3d printed pieces and laser engraved board!
wanted to make something special and memorable but still functional so i thought this project would be fun to try! while ruminating about this i had the idea to fit each letter of his name in a piece (a bijection in the wild?!) which turned out so much better than i could’ve imagined- super happy with how it turned out :)
i’m still learning 3d printing and modeling so full credit to @devious_bo__for helping me remodel a set from alberto olazo on grabcad and thank you to abigail for the clutch last minute 3d prints! i got to try out a lot of new things (blender, bamboo lab, long exposure shots, etc) for the first time which was pretty exciting, so look forward to more in the future.

EDIT: Reposted by @carnegiemellon !!
brought to you by @vivek.makes & @yaow4ng
It’s been a wild first semester, but it’s already been filled with so many special memories that we’ll both cherish. To honor CMU’s 125th anniversary and highlight some of the campus spaces we’ve come to love, we’re excited to share this Wes Anderson-inspired video with everyone. Let us know which location is your favorite (and if we missed any of your favorite spots 👀)!

20 - mudge
codesigned the mudge merch this year with @rshea.art !
i’ve had the idea for this since August (and kept it taped to my dorm wall), and it’s been so cool to see how the design has evolved while i’ve been a part of this amazing house community (whose house!?) first of all, this would not have been possible without @rshea.art ! it was amazing to bounce ideas off of each other, and she helped a lot with making the designs cleaner and more professional. she’s an incredibly talented artist, and everyone should follow her account rn (!!) also shout out to @kesh_badri for letting me borrow his ipad to convert my sketch to digital.
its really nice to see people around on campus with the hoodie and to see figments of the memories ive made in this place in this design! s/o to my RA, the mudge staff, house council, and housing services workers. lastly, a huge, huge thank you to all of the friends and memories that ive made here, from the late-night reading room memories to the spontaneous pool games or courtyard walks, thank you!
one last time I guess—WHOSE HOUSE?

As a freshman in fall 2022, Alex Kirages arrived onto campus with one goal - to avoid playing ultimate frisbee. He wanted to blaze a trail different from his older brother, JT, who played at University of Illinois. In his first week in Pittsburgh, however, he found himself attending team pickup and spending lots of time with members of Mr. Yuk. Before he knew it, he was throwing every day, going to workouts, and shifting his schedule to make room for practices and tournaments.
In his 4 years at Carnegie Mellon, Alex has grown from a hard-working freshman with almost no ultimate experience into an integral player and leader for Mr. Yuk. He has also played for Chicago Trident, Pittsburgh Stealers, and, most recently, the Pittsburgh Thunderbirds in the UFA. His time in the CMU ballroom dance club makes him impossible to guard in the handler set; his size, speed, and quickness let him blanket opposing offensive players; his patient, methodical throwing pushes the disc down the field; his cheerful attitude and smile light up any huddle; and his spirited approach to the game of ultimate inspires teammates and opponents alike. Off the field, Alex has served on team leadership for the past three years, including being a captain this year. The effort, dedication, and personality at the core of Alex’s game embodies the central tenets of Mr. Yuk, and we are proud to nominate him for the 2026 Callahan Award!

made jerseys for Poison Control, CMU Ultimate’s Men’s B team
i love making cool stuff. i also love trying new things. so, it’s been the greatest honor and privilege to design the team jerseys for this year! seeing my teammates running around and pulling off crazy plays while wearing the jerseys has been definitely been a new high for me
our varsity team (@mryukultimate) was initially named after a UPMC poison control sticker (hence our namesake). however, we haven’t had a consistent logo, so I wanted to focus on creating our own “identity” as a team while still riffing off of elements of yuk! the center features lettering in a mixed font with a biohazard sign and a yuk face. the core inspiration of the jersey soon became fluid, techy, yet sleek. with this in mind I wanted to reimagine an older baseball striped design with a tech aesthetic and ended up with something pretty reminiscent of the two, which I’m rly happy with. in the back, I wanted to include a skull that is a “ctrl” keycap that an older poison control alumnus had created, which I thought was a super neat homage to the old poison control.
i know ive waited to post this, but I feel like now is the right time. with this project i’ve picked up vector-based editing on Inkscape and also gained a new appreciation of jersey design in general, from local tournies to all the way to the UFA (s/o windchill!) theres so many new things I want to incorporate and try—so stayed tuned for next year’s jerseys ⁉️
thanks to reid and colin for the help coordinating this. shout out to all the poison control, yuk, and @cmwultimate players, captains, and coaches for a great season and inspiring me to do, be, and play better! hella excited to come back more prepped next sem :)

our varsity team (@mryukultimate) was initially named after a UPMC poison control sticker (hence our namesake). however, we haven’t had a consistent logo, so I wanted to focus on creating our own “identity” as a team while still riffing off of elements of yuk! the center features lettering in a mixed font with a biohazard sign and a yuk face. the core inspiration of the jersey soon became fluid, techy, yet sleek. with this in mind I wanted to reimagine an older baseball striped design with a tech aesthetic and ended up with something pretty reminiscent of the two, which I’m rly happy with. in the back, I wanted to include a skull that is a “ctrl” keycap that an older poison control alumnus had created, which I thought was a super neat homage to the old poison control.
i know ive waited to post this, but I feel like now is the right time. with this project i’ve picked up vector-based editing on Inkscape and also gained a new appreciation of jersey design in general, from local tournies to all the way to the UFA (s/o windchill!) theres so many new things I want to incorporate and try—so stayed tuned for next year’s jerseys ⁉️
thanks to reid and colin for the help coordinating this. shout out to all the poison control, yuk, and @cmwultimate players, captains, and coaches for a great season and inspiring me to do, be, and play better! hella excited to come back more prepped next sem :)

i love making cool stuff. i also love trying new things. so, it’s been the greatest honor and privilege to design the team jerseys for this year! seeing my teammates running around and pulling off crazy plays while wearing the jerseys has been definitely been a new high for me
