Last night was the premiere of STILL NOISE!
After a few years of thinking, writing, testing, doubting and rebuilding — followed by some months of intensive work with my brilliant collaborators — the work finally met an audience in its full form. Thank you so much to everyone who came to witness it.
I’m not someone who naturally likes to talk too much... But somehow, for this work, I wrote, memorised and spoke a 50-minute script (or a score, or a spell…) about noise and silence. Maybe that contradiction is part of the work too.
I suppose it is theatre. But I also hope it can be a ritual, a listening session, a kind of séance. A guide for noticing the room, and perhaps entering a slightly different state together. After last night, I felt that this might be possible.
Huge thank-you to Matt and @cambridgejunction for the support and trust. I’m so glad STILL NOISE premiered as part of DISRUPT Festival and contributed its own quiet disturbance to the programme.
Deepest thanks to @visuals_ru for the set pieces, @_sanli.esf3d for painting the space with light, @spaceofthenameless for hand-moulding the copper headpiece, and @burongz for being such a steady production anchor. Without you, I may not be able to have occupied this space. Thank you also to @lubing._.chen , @runnn.x , Sam and @hollix.x for bringing words, eyes, images and care into the process.
My heart is full. I’d love for this work to travel further, so please reach out if you have touring leads, invitations, or spaces it might speak to! 🎙

If you need a little rest out of the dance, you can head to the woods where you’ll find @visuals_ru sending us in to sensory bliss 📽️
Our quietly growing family of visual artists turn the woods into something else after dark.
Joining us for the first time this year; Ru (@visuals_ru), who has worked with Auntie Flo over the years on his Plants Can Dance project, will take over the visuals of Espacio.
Returning after his leaf projections in Bush of Ghosts last year, Hamie (@hamie_jouse): “the idea, loosely, is to film the light through the canopy by day and project it back at night through refractive glass, a kind of seance for the day’s sun, looping day into night.” This year he’s bringing many new ideas to Alice’s West Runton Pavilion too.
Back again - they’ve been with us since the very first Watching Trees! - Andy from War Productions (@war_productions) and Euan and their insanely good projectors.
With all of it directed by the endless energy and patience of Rob (@rob_snaps / @bloom_installations), whose limits seem to know no bounds.
We hope you’re as excited to get back into the trees to experience all this in just a couple of weeks. 🌳💚

Grateful to be invited to take part in this Friday’s party at @e_s___o Kanazawa (Visual Ru’s Nihon Debut).
Following a chance meeting with @forbiddenhawaii, I’ve been working out of his studio on an impromptu residency, developing a new live visual set using materials gathered during my time in Ishikawa.
Running live visuals for DJ YESYES (Park Daham), a Seoul-based DJ, curator, and label operator known for a fluid, cross-genre approach to selection.

Sound system wizardry by @big_____ears
Arjuna is a donut favourite - Kiwi born and bred, but now fuelling the fires of the London music scene. Fresh after supporting Bilal at the Village Underground, selling out Ronnie Scott’s, and releasing his debut album ‘While I’m Distracted’ earlier this year, he’ll be bringing his polished trio including @sam.notman and @harryshools and some esteemed guests to lay down some grooves.
We also welcome back @visuals_ru visuals_ru, the master of light-based installations and live-feed video projection. He’ll be bringing glassware, found objects, light sources and feedback systems to generate imagery, rooted in touch, motion and the immediate environment.
This time round we’re going full 360 coverage of the space - it will truly be an audiovisual feast, and a beautiful end to the year.
