What a journey. Not just the 22 hours I was up and working Arbor during ZeroBPM , but from inception of the work a few years ago.

As with all my artworks, it takes time. It takes letting go. It takes frustrations, insecurity, aborted collaborations. It takes courage to trust that you're on the right path and to allow the project to grown organically into what it was always supposed to be. Giving it the diligence and time is probably the hardest thing in today's busy times, but so rewarding and a lesson i'd like to apply in my life in general.

I am so grateful I get to do this and share it with the world, and am so grateful of all the people who were part of this in some way or another.

Ephemeral Painting Fine Art Prints. I've finally created fine art prints from my performances of the last few years. Feeling grateful for where this ongoing project has taken me. I’ve met incredibly talented artists, whom I now call friends. I’ve performed in wonderful places and discovered incredible music. From doing my first performance in a kitchen in Berlin w @theorhodius , to performing in the Muziekgebouw and @nxtmuseum with dear friend @boris.acket , to performing live for the legendary @astralindustries @mostrabcn event at @iklectikartlab in London, to our special performance in the Zuiderkerk with @3violas , to touring with the wonderful @pynarello_music orchestra to performing in Tokyo with @iwakimakiko doing a live performance for a 40-hour meditation with @zero__bpm in the beautiful Thomaskerk, I feel truly grateful for all those encounters and the many more special performances.

A large part of those performances were unrecorded, as this project is about creating a sense of presence in the now, a safe space in time for people to dive deep, into themselves and the music. I know this process of creating these live paintings has helped me work through things more than once in my life, and I hope I was able to share that with others too.

It’s been a really wonderful process to go back into the archive and turn those performances into physical prints. Each print comes as a limited edition, signed and printed on high-quality 310 g/m² Hahnemühle Photo Rag paper. To me, that was not just about the materiality of the soil, but also about what lies beyond. As Claudio Bueno and Moises Patricio write: “It goes beyond the physical and also encompasses the invisible and sacred. The land is not just the ground we walk on. It is also a place of memory, ancestry, and vital energy. It involves the spaces where physical and spiritual life meet.”

It felt apt to me that these macro landscapes of roots, moss, lichen, bark, and trees became speculative topographies when I processed them using a custom blobtrack system in Touchdesigner.

Excerpts from our latest project ‘ARBOR’ presented this fall @dagindebranding (NL)

Arbor, meaning tree in Latin, aims to offer a new perspective on time, through the life of a tree. This living cathedral can be an instrument and vessel to inspire people to experience time in a deeper way, and in doing so, sparking a renewed sense of connection with our collective past, and our distant generational future.

By centering this work around the lifespan far beyond ours, as trees can live hundreds and sometimes thousands of years, we want to invite the viewer to reflect on time, and hopefully inspire a sense of deep time.

Helena composed a series of short piano cells as the foundation for Kenny Kneefel’s electronic explorations. Through Arbor, organic growth becomes both visible and audible. Vincent Rang’s visuals can be displayed on LED screens or by projecting on a wall or surrounding, depending on the venue and its possibilities.
