One of the toughest Winter200 rides I have done this season, mid November 2025.
The first 2 hours started out fairly dry and with cold temperatures, but during the first climb the snow started falling and the roads were covered in standing water. I could feel the water seeping in through my layers, my shoes were flooding and my gloves started breaching the temperatures rather than blocking them.
While the mountains were gorgeous as always in the Karwendel area, which I like to call little Canada 🇨🇦, I could feel my core temperature dropping and started to fear iced out roads after riding over already frozen bridges.

Luckily there was plenty of salt on the roads to avoid ice and snow accumulation.
On the down side this meant my legs were not only soaked and freezing but the road salt was also taking a toll on my skin. I could feel my skin starting to burn followed by a stinging pain letting me know that I was rubbing off layers of skin on the back of my knees.

Just over 4 hours into the effort I was bonking hard. I had stopped eating because I couldn’t use my hands properly, I couldn’t really fuel much from my bottles because I was already shaking from the cold and my drink mix was a proper slushy.

I reached a trusty gas station and went big: 2 Monster Assault and a large black coffee to warm me up.
Totaling 180g of carbs and 320mg of caffeine from the Monster plus the coffee with - as some would consider - an unhealthy amount of sugar.
I wasn’t able to capture any footage on half of the ride but I made it home with a (let’s say 🤣) slight above average HR and feeling very ready for a hot shower after a total of 200km in a just under 6h effort.

While this entire adventure might sound dumb and a little risky, I know the 200km loop by heart, I know exactly where I could find shelter if needed and where the train lines were incase I wanted to quit.

I know many people won’t, but to those who do understand the why of this, I hope this story finds you well.
