ESINAM and Sibusile Xaba (@esinam_sibusilexaba) come together in a powerful collaboration that blends Ghanaian highlife, cosmic gospel, analogue trance, and deeply rooted African spirituality.
Described as “the missing link between Fela Kuti and Ibeyi,” the duo draw from their respective ancestries — ESINAM (@esinam_dogbatse) through her Belgian-Ghanaian heritage and Sibusile Xaba (@sibusilexaba) through his roots in KwaZulu-Natal — creating immersive sonic landscapes that move between healing, storytelling, improvisation, and groove.
The project first began in Johannesburg in 2023, making this performance a special return to the city as part of their Healing Voices Africa Tour.

Untitled Basement Presents: The Twin Flame Duet Series
We’re proud to introduce The Twin Flame Duet Series — an exclusive and limited live music experience bringing together dream artist pairings for rare, once-in-a-lifetime collaborative performances.
The series creates space for audiences to encounter artists in intimate, reimagined formats — where unlikely pairings, shared histories, and deeply connected sonic worlds meet on stage in powerful conversation.
We begin this journey with a truly profound meeting of generations and spirit:
IHAMBO YENGOMA
with Andile Yenana & Dumza Maswana
Ihambo Yengoma is more than a performance — it is a deeply spiritual musical dialogue between two important voices in South African jazz and indigenous music: legendary pianist, composer, and cultural thinker Andile Yenana, alongside acclaimed baritone vocalist, songwriter, and uhadi practitioner Dumza Maswana.
For decades, Andile Yenana has stood as one of the great architects of contemporary African jazz — creating music that is meditative, intellectually rich, spiritually grounded, and deeply connected to African identity and memory. Dumza Maswana, whose work draws from isiXhosa oral tradition, indigenous song, jazz, and storytelling, has become one of the most important cultural voices carrying heritage into the present through sound.
Their connection is longstanding and deeply organic. Yenana produced Maswana’s celebrated album Celebrating African Song, and together they have shared stages at some of the country’s most important cultural platforms, including the National Arts Festival and the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz.
Through piano, uhadi, voice, and ancestral rhythm, Ihambo Yengoma becomes a journey into memory, healing, ancestry, and homecoming — where indigenous music traditions and contemporary African jazz meet in breathtaking conversation.
Rooted in the spirit of umngqungqo, this performance honours the preservation and evolution of African musical expression while offering audiences something increasingly rare: music that is honest, sacred, deeply human, and spiritually moving.

[[16 June]] KEENAN MEYER Presents WHERE ARE THE CHILDREN NOW?
Multi-award-winning pianist, composer and producer @keenanmeyerpiano brings together some of South Africa’s most celebrated musicians for a powerful collective offering inspired by Victor Ntoni’s seminal composition, Where Are The Children Now? (2004).
This special Soweto Youth Uprising Day performance invites audiences into an evening of reflection, healing, and musical transcendence.
Drawing from Meyer’s acclaimed works The Alchemy of Living (2021) and Reawakening (2024), the performance explores themes of Afro-futurism, intergenerational healing, spirituality, joy, peace, and forgiveness. Audiences can expect a rich journey through the South African songbook, featuring compositions by visionary artists such as Nduduzo Makhathini, Tumi Mogorosi, Kyle Shepherd, and others who continue to shape the country’s contemporary jazz landscape.
On the bandstand:
Siya Makuzeni, (@siyamakuzeni)
Buhlebendalo, (@buhlebendalomda)
Kekelingo, (@kekelingomusic)
Spartz, (@spartz_ngoma)
Viwe Mkizwana, (@viwemkizwana)
Sthembiso Bhengu, (@sthembisobhengu)
Thabang Moloi, (@t.moloi_99)
and Amongst The People I Know (@iamatpik)
The evening concludes with an opportunity for dialogue between artist and audience, exploring questions around the inner child, the cultivation of joy, and the ways in which South Africa’s collective memory and national archive continue to shape our present and future.
