Dear Community,
I am writing to thank you for your role in bringing to life the concept known as Compound. After much reflection, given the unprecedented and challenging funding landscape for nonprofits, we have made the difficult decision to permanently close our doors. Our final day of public operations will be August 18.
The community and individuals activating our mission Culture Shifts Consciousness have left an imprint on my heart forever. I am deeply grateful to everyone who has devoted their energy, livelihood, and passion to this mission.
I birthed the vision of Compound back in 2013, with a deep yearning to bring greater healing, transformation and personal growth to individuals living a human experience. We officially launched in 2020, during one of the most trying times in human history.
While this new model for social change and transformation within the art/culture and wellness spheres faced many challenges, we had the privilege of working with 382 beautiful partners in showing what authentic community building means, something that is real and full of truth. We are saddened to pause our upcoming exhibition and participation in Long Beach Gives through our IN/Sight fundraiser. We will make sure our artists work is placed in other art spaces to further their careers.
We love our community of Long Beach with big heart and soul. I know we are beyond deserving of this sanctuary and celebration of Long Beach’s true essence as the “international city of love.”
I will always be proud of this work, people’s contributions, and what this work meant during this moment in time. The love of this project will never stop for me. I hope that Compound will live on in the future in a different iteration one day.
With love and well-being,
Megan Tagliaferri, founder, Compound

I recently had the opportunity to try the summer menu at @unionlbc and was thoroughly impressed. If you haven’t been—Union is a restaurant within the Compound, an art museum and event space.
The current menu is both eclectic and approachable, bridging different cultural gaps. We got to try the hummus with taro chips, hamachi crudo, pancit, corn fritters with curry dip, wagyu steak, and swordfish katsu.
The hummus with taro chips was a real treat. Crispy veg, atop creamy hummus was perfectly paired with the thin taro chips.
As for the entrees, the wagyu steak was incredibly tender, meanwhile, the swordfish katsu was reminiscent of fish sticks with tartar sauce—but zhuzh’d up.
And for dessert, we had Thai tea @co.hrted gelato, a limited time @longbeachfoodscene week halo halo, apple cornbread bibingka, and black sesame cheesecake. It all slapped.
In brief, Union’s summer menu exhibited a wide variety of eats in a beautiful environment. Next time you’re looking for a fancy night out, be sure to check them out!

Wrap up your week the right way at Union 🍸
Sip on our cocktail of the day, enjoy delicious food specials, and unwind with refreshing drinks that hit just right during our Happy Hour.
