Link in bio: On making my film with Valentino and Giancarlo, whose unique partnership inspired “Valentino: The Last Emperor”

While filming a scene for “Valentino: The Last Emperor,” with the maestro. There were so many happy and incredible moments.Eternal thanks to Valentino and Giancarlo for letting me inside the unique world they built. ❤️

Frank O. Gehry, the architect whom his peers voted the greatest of his time in a feature I wrote and Wayne Lawson edited in Vanity Fair, died yesterday at 96. I wrote 4 or 5 pieces about some of Frank’s most significant buildings for VF, and spent a lot of time interviewing him over the years, and being driven by his 7 Series BMW, looking at his work as we glided down the streets of L.A., a city he transformed with his mold-breaking, revolutionary work. He was very nice to talk to, and very generous with his time and thoughts. Those who lived in L.A. when he was becoming a breakthrough architect will recall one of his most idiosyncratic works—a Mexican restaurant in Venice, called Rebecca’s. A really eccentric interior that captured the excitement of L.A. in the last decades of the XXth century. Photos by Todd Eberle. Layout by David Harris. Graydon Carter’s era at VF.
