The idea to start Tuft Kid was born during the pandemic—when most, including me, were forced to merge their space at home with the office. While working at home definitely has its perks (sayonara Manila traffic!), it was also a struggle to balance the boundaries between home and work. My room no longer felt like my haven. It was turning into a place of, sadly, stress.

So to counter all of that, I decided to make my area more…me. I grabbed cute selcas of my fave idols from albums and stuck them to the wall. I brought light to old rolled-up posters and displayed them in frames. I put up bookshelves to showcase novels closest to my heart. Adorable trinkets that healed my inner child waved hello from the shelves. The walls received a breath of new life after a fresh coat of paint.

Afterward, everywhere I looked made me smile. Decorating my space with items that reflected me and my likes took out the anxiety-inducing factor of my now WFH-area-slash room. The environment was less daunting, more cutesy.

I wanted to do the same for others—to spark joy with items that speak who they are, heal their soul for even just a tiny bit, and can be displayed wherever it feels right for them.

In the short span of 3 months since commencing Tuft Kid, I’m glad we’re doing just that. Swipe left to see some of the curated mirror rugs we’ve made to celebrate our customers and to spark joy in the spaces they love.

It hasn’t been long in this journey, but we’re so grateful for the opportunity to make others happy with our handmade products. This. This is what sparks joy for us. So thank YOU for your support!

Are we dreaming? 🥹

— — —

The weeks leading up to the opening were so taxing. After my husband and I finished ingress, it was the first time I felt like I could finally breathe again. And when we sat down for our celebratory dinner, everything just hit me — I cried. I didn’t expect it, but it felt so good to realize I can still feel immediate joy after so many weeks of stress. Haha!

I still can’t believe we finally have a space in the mall — and on top of that, it’s in Common Room! This is also Tuft Kid’s first big consignment and everything just feels SO SURREAL. How is this happening?!

We are incredibly grateful to be given the chance to take up space, to share our art with an appreciative audience, and to spark joy through our 100% handmade crafts.

To do all this in Common Room is a dream come true. The Common Room x Spatio store is a place overflowing with passion, love, and visions turned into reality. We truly couldn’t imagine a better home.

Thank you, @commonroomph (and @spatio.ph), for choosing us to be one of the 150 makers in your 6th store — a space impressively reimagined from more than 1000 kilos of trash.

What a dream. Soli deo gloria. 🙏
