Last week I had the opportunity to play with the orchestra for Carnegie Hall’s Link Up program and I am still buzzing 🐝 with excitement from these wonderful shows! We played six performances total for 3rd through 5th graders across NYC and they played and sang right along with us! I’ve never heard so many recorders played live! So wholesome!!! I ended up tearing up 🥹 quite a lot, and I know from my awesome fellow musicians that I was not alone.
Witnessing the magnitude of these kids joy for the music was definitely magical ✨. They have been taught this curriculum and so each song that was announced received screams of excitement. “Ode to Joy” you say? It’s a BANGER, they live for it! Hats off to the incredible music teachers who worked with their students all year instilling this innate love of music 🎵 ♥️ in their souls. Teaching band and orchestra rocks, but I’ve always felt that the true heroes are the general music teachers who get the students engaged and pumped about music from an even earlier age. I have the utmost respect for them! Grateful to be a part of these students hopefully lifelong appreciation of music!!!

Yesterday marked a special accomplishment for me - I finally filled up this lesson log 📓 that I’ve been writing in to track my students’ progress since July of 2022. I’m relishing in the nostalgia of seeing what they were working on two, three, or for some even five years ago and feeling super proud of how far they’ve come.
Private lesson teaching is one of my most favorite things! Growth week to week is sometimes disheartening but year to year has been really rewarding to see - both in my students and in myself.
What word did I see the most in my walk down memory lane? “Remy’s” AKA “Remingtons” AKA “Long tones!!!” 😂 Oh, and “Breathing.”

📸 from 2026 sextet performances with the @athenabrassband that I feel honored to have been a part of 💜. It was a dream come true to play fun and challenging chamber music 🎵 with friends both new and old in Colorado back in January, and this weekend at Concordia College in Minnesota! Still floating from Friday night’s performance! 🥹🥰

While this take may seem harmless, his opinion is rooted in centuries of misogyny.
As tuba players who happen to be women, @tubaheather and I have dealt with comments like this consistently across our combined 40+ years of experience. We can shake them off, but what about the young girl who asks his opinion and is told “her voice matches the flute”? Or the boy who wants to play clarinet but gets handed a trombone? Or the young musician who’s just starting to question their gender and autonomy?
🗣️ INSTRUMENTS DO NOT CORRESPOND TO GENDER! PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES DO NOT MATTER WHEN DECIDING AN INSTRUMENT! DO NOT LET ANYONE TELL YOU OTHERWISE! 🗣️

It appears that Christmas is actually over now! 🤯 I am bubbling over with feelings after this Radio City Christmas Spectacular season so I’ll try and express a few of them:
For the job itself - I grew a lot in these two months both as a musician and as a human. It’s a difficult job both physically and mentally, but thankfully it’s also crazy fun! I’ll miss the comfort of playing the same holiday music sometimes three times a day (yes I know that’s also a little crazy!). And because I am deeply nostalgic, I made sure to take some time almost every show during my rests in “The First Noel” to place my forehead on my tuba, close my eyes, and think of an early memory of growing up and playing. My tuba brings me a lot of joy. Younger me is really proud of older me.
Pictured - The absolute BEST part of the job - playing it with friends both new and old ❤️, and sharing it with my family and friends. I don’t have enough words to thank each of these groups mentioned (and not all
pictured 😢 or tagged, so sorry!) for their never ending kindness, encouragement, and support, but please know that I felt grateful and loved all season long and I know that feeling will continue to carry me through this next year. Special shout out to my tuba Buddy @kennywbentley for being an amazing colleague and an absolute pleasure to share the chair with! THANK YOU ALL!!!! ❤️💜🥹

Special shout out to my tuba Buddy @kennywbentley for being an amazing colleague and an absolute pleasure to share the chair with! THANK YOU ALL!!!! ❤️💜🥹

I’m extra giddy about Christmas in NYC this year! ❄️ 🎄 It was a blast celebrating my first opening night as a member of the @therockettes Christmas Spectacular orchestra! It’s a huge honor to be on the band car with such awesome colleagues! Happy 100 years to the truly spectacular Rockettes - it’s going to be a really special season, and the longest tuba Christmas I’ve ever experienced! 🎶 ❤️💚
