작년 12월 강동아트센터에서 상연한 연극 ‘맨 끝줄 소년’의 무대를 디자인 및 제작했습니다.

맨 끝줄 소년은 후안 마요르가의 2000년작 동명의 희곡을 원작으로 삼습니다.
조용한 소년 클라우디오가 쓴 글을 문학 교사 헤르만이 지도하면서 이야기가 전개되는데,
관객은 헤르만의 시선을 통해 클라우디오의 진술을 따라가면서 어디까지가 사실이고 어디까지가 허구인지 끊임없이 의심하게 됩니다.

작품의 핵심 장치인 침투하고 투과하는 시선을 무대 공간으로 풀어내기 위해 반투명한 소재와 블라인드 등의 요소를 사용해 흐릿하게 경계된 공간을 설계했습니다.
무대의 중심을 이루는 반투명 렉산 프레임들은 그 자체로 뷰포인트가 되며, 프레임들이 겹쳐질수록 시선은 중첩되고 그에 따라 공간의 진실성은 점점 희미해집니다.
무대 양옆과 중앙엔 블라인드와 회전 장치를 두어 인물들의 제스처에 따라 열리고 닫히는 유동적인 구조를 만들고자 했습니다.

I designed and built the set for the play The Boy at the Back of the Class, which was staged at Gangdong Arts Center in December last year.

The play is based on the 2000 script of the same name by Juan Mayorga. The story unfolds as a quiet student named Claudio submits a piece of writing that his literature teacher, Germán, begins to mentor. Through Germán’s perspective, the audience follows Claudio’s narrative—constantly questioning how much of it is true and where fiction begins.

I wanted to translate the play’s central theme—a gaze that penetrates and observes, yet remains uncertain—into the spatial language of the stage. To that end, I designed a fragmented and ambiguous environment using translucent materials and movable blinds, creating blurred boundaries between spaces.
The stage was structured around semi-transparent Lexan frames, which themselves served as shifting viewpoints. As these layers overlapped, the visual field became more complex, and with it, the sense of spatial "truth" became increasingly unstable.
Blinds and a revolving door were installed on both sides and at the center of the stage, allowing spaces to open and close in response to the characters’ gestures. Rather than defining fixed locations, I aimed to create a fluid, responsive structure where space could change with movement and meaning.
