NZ ceramicist Thomas Baker will be a part of ‘Kindred’ featured artist - live performance show at silo6 on 1st May, showcasing his dynamic approach working with clay: one of his iconic dropped vases from high platform!!! with the accomplished by the sound of Cello, play by @karennwho at the background will be dreamy but vibrant experience.

Showcasing his dynamic approach to working with clay. The event will feature documentation of his distinctive Sling shot Vase process,

We pre-visited silo6 with Thomas in last month documented his distinctive Slingshot vases process filmed and edited by @louis_rhian - offering audiences insight into his methods and material awareness. Thomas’s ability to embed character and energy into clay is both engaging and inspiring.
these vases had been dried and wood-fired, ready to showcasing our upcoming exhibition at Silo6. Can’t wait to see the result of fired pieces as well as having him at the live show together with us!

Thomas Baker trained in Kanazawa, Japan, under Seppo Iida, working in his teacher’s atelier, Hokuto Studio. Now based in Mangawhai, Baker has undertaken residencies across Aotearoa and gained recognition for his iconic, playful yet meticulously controlled works. His practice focuses on capturing the state of clay through whimsy and tension. He has shown in multiple national and international exhibitions, and is highly sought after by collectors.

Baker also co-founded Kiln studio in Nelson Whakatū, and is co-founder and creative director of the biennial Nelson Clay Week, contributing significantly to the vitality of the creative community in Aotearoa.
