Play Tools / Scan Factory 🛠️🖨️ I’ve been thinking about these pieces since December when I was invited to show a group of new works at The Other Art Fair. I found a set of plastic children’s tools to experiment with. For me, they represent us getting older and losing that childlike curiosity to create, when life and work takes over.

These artworks titled ‘Play Tools’ are about rediscovering that freedom of creativity. I photocopied the tools, spray painted over them and traced them. I then combined all 3 layers and pasted them to my wood panels, letting the ink run out and stain the white paint, finishing them with a silver ink.

I also created an edition of 30 prints that were hand finished in the same silver ink.

Paired with these was an interactive installation called the ‘Scan Factory’. Visitors chose materials and moved them across the scanner to copy, distort and create unexpected textures. The printer translated this experimentation into a one-of-a-kind poster to take away.

Rooted in my practice of transforming everyday objects into art, the Scan Factory explored reproduction and the strange beauty of imperfection.

I found a set of plastic children’s tools to experiment with. For me, they represent us getting older and losing that childlike curiosity to create, when life and work takes over.

These artworks titled ‘Play Tools’ are about rediscovering that freedom of creativity. I photocopied the tools, spray painted over them and traced them. I then combined all 3 layers and pasted them to my wood panels, letting the ink run out and stain the white paint, finishing them with a silver ink.

I also created an edition of 30 prints that were hand finished in the same silver ink.

Paired with these was an interactive installation called the ‘Scan Factory’. Visitors chose materials and moved them across the scanner to copy, distort and create unexpected textures. The printer translated this experimentation into a one-of-a-kind poster to take away.

Print drop! ✌️ Over the last few months I’ve been working on this collection of new mixed media prints. I’ve photocopied phones, made tinfoil masks and rubbings of bass guitar strings, looked at paracetamol under a microscope and even scanned a dog.

I’m also pleased to include a brand new artwork titled ‘Slow Down, Let Go’, that features a hi-res scan of a peacock feather.

Prints are available in 4 size options on fine art paper from A4 to A1. Each print is signed, numbered and includes a certificate of authenticity.

For our most recent edit, we’re bringing together creative people across different cultures and crafts with Joe Boyd, an Essex-based mixed-media artist who creates abstract art using unconventional materials.

Working with a selection of concept-led pieces as well as our iconic hopsack trouser, Joe reworked these using photocopiers, microscopes, and scanners to turn them into one-off abstract compositions.

We can’t help but be inspired by his overall philosophy on slowing down, noticing more, and finding inspiration in what’s around you.
