Gallery Artist Spotlight: Jeff Clarke 🎨
It's the final week of our current exhibition, Creative Contrasts, with Jeff Clarke and Manja Scott.
Jeff trained through the 1950s at the Brighton College of Art and in Italy with a Prix de Rome scholarship in engraving. Later he etched and painted regularly in Crete alongside the role of draughtsman to the British School of Archaeology until 1996.
The regular periods of vibrant sunlight had a profound effect on his work in colour, tone and line.
This exhibition has celebrated a long friendship between two artists with contrasting styles, and a shared appreciation of each other’s visual language.
…
With @oxfordshireartweeks also coming to a close, if you've yet to stop by, make a day of it and explore other artists and venues exhibiting in Summertown too!
Open this week 10am–4pm, with a special Sunday opening marking the final day:
📅 Sunday 24 May | 12pm–4pm

📢 @dalisochaponda is back in Oxford soon with his latest stand-up show, Topical Storm 🌪
Daliso has been writing jokes about the news for over a decade – on Have I Got News For You, Radio 4's The News Quiz, Australia’s Good News Week and many more besides. (In fact he’s seen the news from both sides, having been in the tabloids himself.) But recently the news has been so absurd, chaotic and overwhelming that it more or less mocks itself. Where do we go from here?
Topical Storm is Daliso’s response. Grab a ticket to hear all about it!

✨ Rhapsody of a Dream ✨
We spend a third of our lives asleep, yet sleep remains one of the most intimate and unexplored parts of who we are.
Rhapsody of a Dream was born from that exact curiosity and is a conversation between artists and scientists, trying to make sense of what happens when we close our eyes.
Singer/songwriter Kendy Gable and pianist Elenora Pertz have woven together lullabies from around the world with Brahms’ Intermezzi op 117– “Lullabies of my Sorrows” as he called them— to musically represent the different phases of the sleep cycle. Projections by artist Amaia Salazar and drawings by Justin Coombes add a visual dimension to the performance.
This project is a collaboration with the Neuroscience department at #oxforduniversity. Stay around after the concert for an exchange around the science of sleep.
🎭 The North Wall Theatre, Oxford
Friday 22 May
🕗 Concert | 8:00 – 9:30 PM
🥂 Stay after & meet us | 9:30 – 10:15 PM
Sleep specialist - Pietro-Luca Ratti
Kendy Gable - vocals
Elenora Pertz - piano
Justin Coombes - drawings
Amaia Salazar - projections
