played hooky and flew to Raleigh for the day 🙈

season 2 of our hooky day trips are backkkk and this one is extra special bc it also kicked off my 50 state series, where I’m trying to visit all 50 states in 2026

we had the perfect day exploring @visitraleigh — the flights were only a little over an hour from NYC and it felt like a calm escape from the big city while still having plenty to do 👇🏽

🥕 visited the @savingthemarket
🌳 walked through @dixpark to see the new trolls
🍻 grabbed lunch at @brewerybhavana
🛍️ did a littleeee too much shopping at @thesocialstatus @unleashedcitymarket
🍺 sat on the patio at @crankarmbrew
🍗 got some Carolina BBQ at @thepitbbq
🍫 walked through @viderichocolate
🏙️ explored downtown and all of the local shops
🍸 ended with a little night cap at @themerchantnc

it was a day veryyy well spent and now we want to go back for longe to explore more of the area!

The Field Trip Program matches you & your plans with a shelter pup who could benefit from a day out of the shelter. They asked us what our plans were & if we had any preferences on size/breed/activity level — we said give us the dog who needs it

You can reserve a field trip spot online for a $40 (or more if you can spare it) — they’re a fully independent, private, and non-profit organization 💛

This is our first time in Hawai’i and I can’t wait to share more of our trip to the garden island 🌿

✅ state 10/50 ended up being not only my home state, but also a completely unexpected trip 🙈

I ended up in @visitboerne for a work project (you’ll learn more this summer!) but honestly I think that’s becoming one of my favorite parts of this series — learning that travel doesn’t always have to look like some huge perfectly-planned adventure

sometimes it’s just romanticizing the little pockets of time you’re given in unexpected places 👇🏽

☕️ grabbed a giant cinnamon roll at @richterboerne which has been on my list for YEARS
🛍️ wandered through all of the shops in downtown
🫶🏽 chatted with so many sweet locals (something we seriously take for granted in nyc)
🌿 walked the Cibolo Creek Trail
🍺 grabbed a local beer at @freeroambrewingcompany & @cibolocreekbrewingco 
🌮 ended the day with queso and a good marg (I miss both dearly) at @lasguitarras2020
🧡 HAD to pick up @whataburger on my way to the airport

Boerne honestly surprised me in the best way and felt like such a nice reminder that not every meaningful trip has to be extravagant 💛

the best way to kick off state 9/50 — a morning touring @pawschicago and meeting some of the Ridglan Farms beagles alongside @simonsits & @myboyrudder 🥹🫶🏽

many of you probably don’t know how deep my lore with animals runs — my very first “job” was volunteering at a local rescue every Sunday for 2 years, followed by 7 years spent in veterinary medicine,12 fosters, and 5 dogs of my own

so I’ve seen first-hand how organizations like PAWS are changing lives all over the country, not only for these beagles who have spent their entire lives in cages, but for millions of animals and their owners. if you want to get involved, I encourage you to reach out to your nearest rescue or shelter and see in what ways they need help

decided to play hooky to @explorecharleston and cross off state 8/50 🦀☀️✅

I went back and forth on wanting to spend more time in Charleston but the flight prices chose for me 😅 so I did my best to squeeze in as much as possible during my day trip 👇🏽

☕️ grabbed coffee and a pastry at @sorelle_chs
🌷 walked to rainbow row
🍍 strolled through waterfront park to the pineapple fountain
🦀 grabbed a southern brunch at @poogansporchchs
🛍️ did wayyyy too much shopping on King St at @gritandgracestudiolove @loefflerrandall @shopclubcoastal @sweeterthanfictionbookshop
🫶🏽 browsed at all the handmade & local goodies inside @chascitymarket
🍻 enjoyed a beer at @chasbeerworks
🚶‍♀️ explored Radcliffeborough and all of the local shops in the area (s/o to @thetinytassel)
🍸 ended with a little caviar martini + some salmon crudo at @bythewaychs before heading back to the airport

as always, it was a day veryyyy well-spent and I 100% plan on coming back for way longer (hello, I didn’t even make it to the beach!!)
