Our stories don't seem to be working right now so it can go on the main feed. We're delighted to be included in this article for @houseandgardenuk alongside other custodians of endangered craft.

You can read the article here: https://www.houseandgarden.co.uk/article/the-crafts-that-nearly-died-out-and-the-people-saving-them

I know you've been there. Maybe you saw an item online that you loved, or you wanted something really specific and couldn't find it. So you reached out to a maker, but when they got back to you the cost was... A lot.

It's tempting to feel like the entire world is against you having well made, beautiful things. I just want you to know that it's not yours (or the maker's) fault. If you can't afford it, then that's fine. If you'd like to tell them that you can't afford it right now then feel free, honestly they won't take offence!

Now, I don't mean to get up on my high horse, but what they may take offence to is you trying to drive their price down by one way or another. Even in the video above it looks easy. Buts that's because I've spent the last 6 yearsrepeating this action to the point where it DOES look easy. You're not just paying for the time I spend making this item, you're paying for the time spent learning to do it perfectly.

You may disagree here, and feel free to drop a comment below explaining why. Or maybe even you have a method that works for both maker and customer when either buying or selling?! I'd LOVE to hear that!

One of the stranger photoshoots we've ever done, only Hugo's mind could come up with this. Much missed and forever thankful for the impact you had on us.

It's a glorious sunny day here in the Borders, so what better to do than drag a chair and a plinth up a steep hill for a photo with a blue sky backdrop.

This Rocking chair has been painted in Iznik by @edwardbulmerpaint, a colour designed by the wonderful @carlosgarciainteriors. Doesn't it look fantastic!

Easy as that! Love these symmetrical runners from #hafelePull one side out, and the other copies it!

We haven’t made one of these high back Clissett Chairs in aaaaaages. But we’re so pleased with how they’ve turned out. A beautiful golden mahogany stain with oiled finish really makes the Oak pop don’t you think.

Would you stain your chair or keep the natural colour of the wood? What colour would you go?!

A work in progress on the bench today. 🛠️🌾
This rocker is currently at one of the most important stages: the seating. There is something incredibly grounding about the rhythm of weaving the fresh, green rush. A process that hasn’t changed in centuries.
While it’s looking pretty humble at the moment, this one has a very stylish future ahead. Once the rockers and arms are fitted, it’s headed to our spray booth to be finished in ‘Iznik’ by @edwardbulmerpaint. 🎨
This particular shade was developed by the brilliant @carlosgarciainteriors, and we can’t wait to see how it transforms the whole feel of the chair! Hopefully it’ll be a perfect example of how heritage craft can meet contemporary interior vision. Only time will tell.
Stay tuned to see the finished result!

A little throwback to one of our first really big projects 5 years ago, and one of our first forays into table making.

A true statement piece, just two 3.2m book matched boards of beautiful English oak, drawbore mortise and tenon joinery, inspired by the hayrake designs of Ernest Gimson. Complete with a set of 16 Gimson dining chairs in ash sourced less than a mile from our workshop.

Now well loved and used daily in the @hugoburgefoundation common room
