We are delighted to announce the recipients of the inaugural @museumplinthproject residencies for 2026.

Following a highly competitive open call, early-career artists Sian Costello (R) and Mel Galley (L) have been selected for six-month research residencies supported and hosted by the @nationalmuseumofireland and @marshslibrary respectively, and supported by @dublincityartsoffice Dublin City Arts Office and @thelabgallery

From July to December 2026, in tandem with @ep_ireland Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, both artists will develop new work through sustained engagement with collections, archives and institutional research.

Sian Costello and Mel Galley represent a new generation of research-led practitioners whose work engages critically and imaginatively with material culture, archives and systems of knowledge.

In conversation with artist Elva Mulchrone and LAB Gallery curator Dr. Margarita Cappock

Join us for a conversation on the exhibition “In the Grid” with artist Elva Mulchrone and LAB Gallery curator Dr. Margarita Cappock at 1.00pm on Friday 15 May in The LAB Gallery.

Elva Mulchrone is an award-winning artist, having received honours such as a Fulbright Scholarship to the Graduate Center CUNY (2024/25), multiple Arts Council of Ireland awards, and residencies including Dublin City University and the Ballinglen Museum of Art. Her work has been widely exhibited in solo and group shows across Ireland, the UK, and the US, with highlights including exhibitions in New York, London, and major Irish institutions. She holds advanced degrees in painting from the Royal College of Art and NCAD, and her work is represented in numerous public and private collections.

This event is part of National Drawing Day.
