The Gladstone Arms, one of the 80+ independent pubs that are part of the @city_stack London Pub Collection. 👀

Known locally as ‘The Glad’, this independent family-run pub is affectionately named after four-time former prime minister William Gladstone. Located a stone’s throw away from Borough tube station, expect Anglo-Indian dishes including favourites such as curry pies and Indian Sunday roasts. Accompanying the spice is a strong selection of British craft beer, wine and cocktails. An array of entertainment can also be found. Gigs, comedy, quizzes and open mic nights all feature weekly.
Steeped in over 200 years of history, The Glad was mentioned by Charles Dickens in the Pickwick Papers as somewhere that “sheds a gentle melancholy upon the soul”. However, you’d be forgiven for mistaking melancholy for celebration now, as The Glad is now very much somewhere to have fun!

And with the CityStack London Pub Collection, you get £10 off at @thegladpub and other wonderful independent pubs across London. 🍻
➡️ Discover and support some of the best independent pubs while saving money: our £25 London Pub Collection gives you £100 worth of food & drink at stunning independent pubs.
Each pack comes with a special beer mat. Show it at any ten of the 80+ pubs handpicked by us, and have it stamped to get £10 off £20+ spend. Do it ten times, save £100 (10 x £10 off = £100 worth of food and drink at pubs 🤯).
CityStack provides a fun experience too, including a map and a stack of collectible informative beer mats to learn more about a fantastic selection of London pubs.
It’s the perfect gift for pub lovers! 🎁

Learn more about the Gladstone Arms on their dedicated CityStack page and get your pack on citystack.co (link in bio).

Let’s go to independent pubs!

If you have ever met an Indian subcontinent cinema fan obsessing over certain movies, songs, or dance numbers and wondered why, this lecture will give you the answers.

And if YOU are that fan, this one is for you.

Our 4th lecture traces the history of this art form, from its roots in classical and popular theatre to the early 20th century, including the creation of South Asia’s first silent feature film. At a time when only around 6% of people on the subcontinent could read and write, cinema offered a different language.

The lecture delves into how this new art form shaped, and was shaped by, the politics of the time, changing the future forever. It talks about how the cinema changed after independence and the partition between India and Pakistan.

You really don’t want to miss Professor Sunny Singh’s talk on this subject.

Dr Sunny Singh is an anti-colonial writer, novelist, academic and public intellectual. She is Professor of Creative Writing and Inclusion in the Arts at London Metropolitan University, and her work sits across literature, cinema, race, gender and popular culture.

Besides being the author of several books, she also launched the celebrated Jhalak Prize for literature by writers of colour.

This lecture is for film lovers, artists, writers, Bollywood sceptics, and anyone curious about how art can shape a region, hold its politics, and change the way people imagine themselves.

WHAT TO EXPECT

🎙️45 to 60-minute talk, with a speaker who prefers dialogue over one-way lectures
⁉️30-minute interactive Q&A with the speaker
👋Optional socials after
🍺 First pint/tea/non-alcoholic drinks on us

WHEN

📅 Wednesday, 27 May 2026
⏳ 7:00 to 8:30 pm
