We started @thefreezedoc because a group of friends in Lafayette (@allisonbohldehart @rcnederveld & @makemade_ ) could not figure out why the song / Louisiana line dance was called “The Freeze.” We thought a few conversations and a camera could solve it quickly.

It did not.

The first person we filmed was Warren Storm. Legend had it that in the 1990s “The Freeze” AKA “If You Don’t Want Me To” song was hard to find, so Floyd Soileau and Warren recorded their own version under “The Freeze” name to meet the demand. We filmed Warren in 2019, and he had us laughing within minutes. The track was just a small blip in his inspiring career, but he generously spent the day answering all our questions.

Since then, we have filmed across Acadiana, digging through archives, dj booths and dance halls. Every answer opens another door.

And now we are very excited that Megan Broussard Maughan @megsbroussard hasjoined the film team, equally obsessed and ready to follow the trail.

We have self-funded the film so far. Next stop the film team is headed to Nashville, TN to sit down with Ronnie Milsap, his producer Rob Galbraith, and one of the songwriter to hear their side of the story. After that, the mystery pulls us to a few more places. Please consider donating to the film fund to pay for hard costs of gas, travel, meals gear and crew! New Orleans… is The Freeze actually a thing?

After my last post, so many of you from NOLA chimed in — some saying you 100% grew up doing it, others saying you’ve never even heard of it.

As the investigator for a documentary on @TheFreezeDoc, I’m trying to understand how most of South Louisiana plus some parts of central and North Louisiana know the song and line dance but not New Orleans. Especially since we’re hearing that some places in Mississippi and Texas do know The Freeze. 🤯
