The 3-year journey of this film has taken us across the country, 30,000 feet up in the sky, and all the way to the NAACP Image Awards. I couldn’t be more proud to finally just let it out into the world.
Thank you to everyone who’s supported this film, seen it, programmed it, and even rejected it (y’all humbled me rq). This being my first real short film as a writer/director, I’m so grateful to see what we’ve been able to accomplish with it (ON THE 1ST ONE)!

I am beyond grateful to see this project recognized by the Independent Shorts Awards with a Bronze Award for Best First-Time Female Director and an Honorable Mention for Best Women Short 🤍
The composing process for this film took a non-traditional approach — I wrote and recorded the score before the edit. I had the privilege of collaborating with two incredible musicians:
@erin.mckibben on flute and @yeemz on cello and featured vocals on “Not the First One.”
Samantha, our amazing director, led this project with such openness, trust, and vulnerability — and she is also a lyricist on the soundtrack! Deep gratitude to the entire production team for such heartfelt, courageous work.
The soundtrack is now available on all streaming platforms. Let’s continue making space for healing, amplifying these stories, and advocating for survivors. 🤍
