✨ Knistern describes a crackling sound, and is also a metaphor for something that’s in the air between people, be it a crush or an argument. Something invisible that makes the relational space vibrate and spark. Something magical, intangible and not to be pinned down that is happening in the moment of relation to each other.
The series Knistern each time brings together two artists and a musical idea they are currently working on. They present their current work in a short set, and then have space to share their musical ideas in conversation with each other, a music journalist, and the audience. What happens in the space between the two artistic approaches, and what happens between people in the room in the conversation? And also, what happens between the sound and the review, the thinking, the tuning in, the conversation?
Knistern takes place in collaboration with Richten25, project space for improvised music in Berlin Wedding. What we love about Knistern is that it feels spontaneous and alive — something that exists only in the moment. Sometimes something lasting grows from it, and sometimes it remains a beautiful, fleeting encounter.

Wir laden euch herzlich zu einer experimentell-angeleiteten und kollektiven listening session zu Fasia Jansen ein. Gemeinsam hören wir die Musik von Fasia Jansen, tauchen ein in ihr künstlerisches Schaffen und sprechen über ihre Bedeutung in der deutschen Musiklandschaft.
Tmnit Ghide (Black Music Archive, Wien, @teemnit) gibt Einblicke in die Geschichte Schwarzer Musiker im deutschsprachigen Raum und die Musikindustrie ihrer Zeit.
Marny Garcia Mommertz (@marny.gar)die ihre Forschung zu Fasia Jansen 2020 gemeinsam mit Princela Biyaa begonnen hat, wird Material aus ihrer Arbeit teilen und so das Verständnis von Jansens Erbe vertiefen.

As the next artist from our scholar and fellowship program to present their final work in MOVING SPACE at MEZEKƎRƎ, we are pleased to announce:
Tmnit Ghide @teemnit is an Eritrean born and raised in Southern Germany. Her career began in tour and artist management, followed by the founding of a label and two festivals in Berlin. Today, her main focus lies in publishing, particularly through Edition Dimtsi (Springstoff), which she founded. As a DJ, music curator, and cultural worker, she operates at the intersection of art, music, and community. A central aspect of her work is building bridges between the African diaspora and the continent, fostering a connected and global perspective on music. This transnational focus was further strengthened during her residency in Addis Ababa as part of the BMC Berlin Music Ambassador Program.
Over the past months, I have been working extensively with archival material, exploring how archives can sound, resonate, and be experienced in space. The opening takes the form of
a radio station and offers a deep dive into the history of Black music makers in Vienna in the past 20 years.It marks a first insight into a research process I began last year and will continue to develop in the future. More will follow later this year.

In der künstlerischen Intervention begegnen die Künstler:innen den sogenannten Ausländerakten, literarisch, musikalisch, performativ. Die Akten konservieren verwaltete und funktionalisierte Leben. Die Künstler:innen treten in einen Dialog mit den Dokumenten, sie antworten, widersprechen, erinnern, verwandeln. Sie setzen ihnen ihr eigenes Leben als Nachfahren entgegen.
Wer entscheidet, was aufbewahrt und wie erinnert wird? Wie wird der Wert eines Menschen bestimmt? Es entsteht ein Moment des Innehaltens, des Erinnerns und des Widerklangs, ein Eingreifen in den Raum, in dem das „dort“ Unsichtbare hörbar wird. Unser Leben.
