November is National Adoption Awareness Month and I am so excited to share this news I’ve been sitting on for the past two months.
💛
After pouring my energy into creating and sharing content on IG for years, stepping back from this platform has been an incredible gift to myself. I am so happy to be working in a school with amazing people, continuing to support institutions and individuals with their ongoing DEI and ABAR work, and grow in my writing practice. It has been so life-giving to be in community with people every day and see and feel the impact of this work.
💛
At the end of one particularly amazing year teaching 3rd grade, my students gave me a collage of their thumbprints positioned like leaves around the image of a tree with the quote from Hamilton, “Legacy. What is a legacy? It’s planting seeds in a garden you never get to see.” At this point in my life, my gaze has turned towards this idea of “legacy work.” What will I leave behind? What will my legacy be as an ancestor to adoptees, to Korean Americans, to Jews, to queer folks who come after me?
💛
As today marks the first day of National Adoption Awareness Month, I’m so excited to share the creation of the Soon Ok Scholarship (named after my birth mother) with the @highlightsfound an organization that has played a huge role in my growth as a writer over the past few years and opened up an entirely new and beautiful community to me. The Soon Ok Scholarship provides funds for a Transracial Adoptee Storyteller to attend an online or in-person Highlights workshop or retreat of their choice. It is funded for the next five years, and in honor of this month I would love it if folks donated to ensure its longevity.
💛
If you’re a transracial adoptee aspiring author or illustrator, please see the instructions on the 3rd slide to learn more. As a community, we have a multitude of experiences and stories to share, and I hope you do.

After years of researching and writing “What Jewish Looks Like,” its book birthday is finally here! Tomy dear friend and co-author @carolinepritchardwrites thank you for saying yes to collaborating on this project. I couldn’t have imagined a more amazing writing partner to share this adventure. To @irisgottlieb the most incredible illustrator, thank you for bringing this idea to life. To @lueditsbooks and the @harpercollins team, thank you for believing in and championing this book.
✡️
When it comes to writing for children, all I want to do is create the kind of books that I wish I had when I was little. I love being Jewish. And still I spent far too long believing it when both Jewish and non-Jewish people said I didn’t “look” Jewish, questioned my belonging, and asking for my receipts. I had no idea that such an expansive and beautifully diverse world existed within the Jewish community. It turns out, it was hidden in plain sight. I hope that this book contributes to everyone’s understanding of Jewish people, our history, resilience, and joy. L’Chaim!
✡️
To everyone who supported us throughout this process, preordered this book, and have shared it with their communities, thank you thank you thank you!

Hi and welcome to the 15k new folx to this page over the past few weeks! I wanted to introduce myself with a candid photo that shows me as a person, not a resource. Back when I started this IG account, it was just a place for me to post about my work, books, and meet other like minded teachers. If you had told me when I made my first post what this page would become, I never would have believed you. The posts on this page are both resources and evidence of my evolution as a thinker. There is language and content in my account that I no longer use or believe, but I keep it up because I think transparency of this work is important. I’ve been working on non-violent communication for the past year in therapy, and it’s important that I share some personal agreements for myself, and what that means for y’all and I interact. Please swipe to read, and I’m happy you’re here!
.
💛My name is Liz Kleinrock (she/her).
💛At the core of my work, I am a teacher. I’m here for dismantling white supremacy, joy, and liberation.
💛I’m a transracial adoptee. I was born in South Korea, and grew up in DC in an Ashkenazi Jewish family. I identify as Korean American and East Asian American.
💛I am bisexual.
💛I taught in California for about ten years (grades 1-5), and recently moved back to DC where I now teach 6th grade.
💛I have 2 adorable and antisocial bunnies.
💛I like horror films, fly fishing, and reading outside.
💛I dislike olives and being late.
💛I wrote a book! It comes out in May!
.
Please read my “new folx” highlight in my profile, and free to drop a comment and introduce yourself. I’m excited to meet y’all, and hope y’all are committed to this work for the long haul.

Resisting the urge to spend all day doom scrolling when you’re snowed in… The margin between drowning in awful news and the desperate need to stay informed is razor thin. While those of us in DC do not have voting representation in the senate (#taxationwithoutrepresentation) please please call your senators using the script from @bensheehan on the second slide.
.
5 Tangible Things You Can Do To Support Immigrants and Protest ICE
1. Check in on the people in your life who are undocumented, who are naturalized citizens who were born abroad, who are immigrants.
2. Sign up for an ICE bystander intervention training. Many organizations offer these online. (Right to Be, Free DC)
3. Volunteer for ICE watch patrol in your local community.
4. Call your representatives in the senate (the house already voted yes) and urge them not to vote for any FY2026 appropriations bill that includes increased funding for ICE or Border Patrol.
5. Donate to local mutual aid groups and organizations that provide legal resources to immigrant communities.

"It's important to put yourself out there because when you do, you get to actually help combat and lessen imposter syndrome throughout the generations. How beautiful and important is that?" says @teachandtransform.

Liz is a transracial adoptee who is challenging what it means to be #AsianPlusAmerican. Her identity is not a layer of complexity—it is the epitome of the Asian American experience, rooted in diaspora and the legacy of U.S. intervention in Korea.

This World Adoption Month, we spoke to Liz—an anti-bias/anti-racist educator and author—about finding her voice, the pain of feeling "not Asian enough," and the power of visibility.

Read her full interview in our blog, THE TAKEAWAY, at the link in bio.

PS – guns are the common denominator.
PPS- comments off bc too many people seem to think this post is telling them what to feel. feel your feelings, whatever they are. this is my perspective, it doesn’t have to be yours.

Last week I celebrated my birthday. It was the first birthday in a long time where I didn’t feel sad or cry.
.
This past year was one of the hardest I’ve ever experienced. Endings, grief, mourning, and the violence unfolding in the world outside of my control. And at the same time- new beginnings, community, healing, and acting with purpose. I can’t say I’d ever want to repeat anything like this year, and I am so grateful for what’s been planted and is beginning to grow.
.
Above all, to my friends- The ones who carried me, checked in with me, created with me, listened to me, laughed with me, cried with me, and showed me love this year and beyond. I love you a million times over. Thank you.

Today’s SCOTUS decision hurts everyone, both queer and cis straight children and adults alike. When we lose the ability to see ourselves affirmed in the pages of the books we read, and when we fail to recognize the humanity in others, what do we have left?
